Book excerpt: An Experimental Approach to CDMA and Interference Mitigation was written with the admittedly ambitious intent of filling the gap between communication theory and VLSI implementation, and thus to provide a more general/theoretical approach to the design, development, and testing of a CDMA receiver. As a consequence, the concepts and techniques that are presented turn out to be applicable to a more general kind of digital wireless modems in terms of receiver architecture design and implementation. As the reader will easily find out, the subject of digital modem design and implementation is addressed in the book starting from a theoretical approach (supported by proper bibliographic references), and is followed by application issues, with reference to an ESA experiment assumed as a case study. A complete design flow, from specification to implementation, including testing and final verification is then presented. This leads the reader step-by-step to a thorough understanding of CDMA transmission and detection, and constitutes a practical guidance for the design of VLSI wireless mobile terminals.

Book excerpt: This book examines the methodological foundations of the Big Data-driven world, formulates its concept within the frameworks of modern control methods and theories, and approaches the peculiarities of Control Technologies as a specific sphere of the Big Data-driven world, distinguished in the modern Digital Economy. The book studies the genesis of mathematical and information methods’ transition from data analysis & processing to knowledge discovery and predictive analytics in the 21st century. In addition, it analyzes the conditions of development and implementation of Big Data analysis approaches in investigative activities and determines the role and meaning of global networks as platforms for the establishment of legislation and regulations in the Big Data-driven world. The book examines that world through the prism of Legislation Issues, substantiate the scientific and methodological approaches to studying modern mechanisms of terrorism and extremism counteraction in the conditions of new challenges of dissemination and accessibility of socially dangerous information. Systematization of successful experience of the Big Data solutions implementation in the different countries and analyze causal connections of the Digital Economy formation from the positions of new technological challenges is performed. The book’s target audience includes scientists, students, PhD and Master students who conduct scientific research on the topic of Big Data not only in the field of IT& data science, but also in connection with legislative regulation aspects of the modern information society. It also includes practitioners and experts, as well as state authorities and representatives of international organizations interested in creating mechanisms for implementing Digital Economy projects in the Big Data-driven world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The broadband wireless communications field is growing at an explosive rate, stimulated by a host of important emerging applications ranging from 3G, 4G and wireless LAN. Wideband CDMA and CDMA2000 will be used for 3G. OFDM+CDMA might be a good choice for 4G, CDMA overlay will possibly be used for new-generation broadband wireless LAN. For system planners and designers, the projections of rapidly escalating demand for such wireless services present major challenges and meeting these challenges will require sustained technical innovation on many fronts. The text of this book has been developed through years of research by the author and his graduate students at the University of Hong Kong. The aim of this book is to provide a R&D perspective on the field of broadband wireless communications by describing the recent research developments in this area and also by identifying key directions in which further research is needed. As a background, I presume that the reader has a thorough understanding of digital communications and spread spectrum/CDMA. The book is arranged into 13 chapters. In chapter 1, some key specifications of 3G WCDMA are described and discussed. These techniques include channel coding, rate matching, modulation and spreading, power control, cell search, transmit diversity, soft-handoff, and so son. In Chapter 2, the coherent RAKE reception of Wideband CDMA signals with complex spreading is considered. A dedicated pilot channel, which is separate from data channels, is used for the purpose of channel estimation.

Book excerpt: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) has become one of the main candidates for the next generation of mobile land and satellite communication systems. CDMA is based on spread spectrum techniques, which have been used in military applications for over half a century. Only recently, however, has it been recognised that spread spectrum techniques, combined with some additional steps, can provide higher capacity and better flexibility for the mobile cellular radio communications. Code Division Multiple Access Communications comprises a set of contributions from the most distinguished world scientists in the field. These papers review the basic theory and some of the most important problems related to spread spectrum and CDMA. The topics covered centre on the information theory aspects of CDMA; interference suppression and performance analysis. The material presented in this book summarises the main problems in modern CDMA theory and practice and gives a solid starting point for studying this complex and still challenging field. As such Code Division Multiple Access Communications is essential reading for all researchers and designers working in mobile communication systems and provides an excellent text for a course on the subject.
