Book excerpt: In 2018 an explosive expose revealed that South African newspapers were disseminating fake news, this came as no surprise to police Captain Jake Smit, who had been the victim of Sunday Siren allegations directed by editor Malebe Masende. So Captain Jake turned to the beautiful Marlin Madison for help, she was a trained journalist and would be able to unearth, what devious scheme the sleazy Sunday Siren editor had involved himself in. Captain Jake Smit was an Afrikaner who'd been brought up amongst the Zulu, he spoke Zulu fluently and was recognized by police, as an authority on Zulu customs and traditions. Along with Peter Khumalo his trusted Zulu Sergeant, Captain Jake kept the peace in rural Umuzi, but that wasn't always easy to do for the Zulu are a volatile people. Captain Smit loved the Zulu, but he hated the superstition in their society, the witchcraft murders and ritual killings. Now he had to deal with an outbreak of killing that froze the district in fear, because the slaughter was reputed to be the work of the dreaded Impundulu, a legendary Lightning Bird that struck lightning off its talons and fed off human blood. Compounding the problem was corrupt Sunday Siren editor Malebe Masende, who was slyly diverting attention from an illegal organ harvesting ring, by publishing 'death squad' allegations against the investigating police captain. So Jake Smit approached local journalist Marlin Madison, who soon uncovered the illegal organ gathering of French transplant surgeon Silvio Sarkoy, and the sleazy cover-up by Sunday Siren. Which resulted in their editor Malebe Masende being fired, and the cessation of fake news like the 'Cato Manor death squad, ' hopefully this has taught the entire South African media a lesson. For both the International Bar Association and International Association of Prosecutors, are becoming concerned at newspaper fake news, and the international media are beginning to wonder? Is South African news reporting truly fair comment, or is the liberal system of media self-regulation and internal control, merely a pseudonym for media dictatorship and social control?

For the recently transformed, this guide can help you understand how your body has been changed by the transformation and what to expect surviving as one of our kind. For the traditional vampire, you may learn new ways to survive. This guide provides solutions to the problem with sunlight while explaining that blood is not all we must consume for our survival. It may also help you - and possibly others of our kind - to learn and adapt to modern times while providing sufficient explanation as to who we are and, perhaps more importantly, what we are not. With this guide in hand, you will be well prepared to enter the realm of the Modern Vampire.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Farini would stride on to the stage and announce, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, and now for the highlight of the day, the ferocious Zulus.’ The impresario Farini introduced Em-Pee and his troupe to his kind of show business, and now they must earn their bread. In 1885 in a bustling New York City, they are the performers who know the true Zulu dances, while all around them fraudsters perform silly jigs. Reports on the Anglo-Zulu War portrayed King Cetshwayo as infamous, and audiences in London and New York flock to see his kin. What the gawking spectators don’t know is that Em-Pee once carried nothing but his spear and shield, when he had to flee his king. But amid the city’s squalid vaudeville acts appears a vision that leaves Em-Pee breathless: in a cage in Madison Square Park is Acol, a Dinka princess on display. For Em-Pee, it is love at first sight, though Acol is not free to love anyone back.

Book excerpt: The four plays that make up this collection Thabo Mbeki and Other Nightmares by Tsepo wa-Mamatu; Circles by Tau Maserumule; Comrade Babble by Allan Kolski Horwitz; My Life in the Bush of Ghosts by Lesego Rampolokeng/Liepollo Rantekoa, Stacy Hardy and Jaco Bouwer; The Life and Times of Brett Kebble by Patrick Bond, have, as a linking thread, their confrontation with the ongoing corruption and mismanagement that characterizes the not-so-new liberated South Africa. Stylistically quite different, each breaks new ground in presenting these debilitating features and while tackling political themes head-on, never degenerates into mere sloganeering or counter-propaganda. Indeed, they take contemporary South African playwriting to new heights of 'committed theatre'.
