Book excerpt: To Whom it May Concern, It was easy to call us forbidden and harder to call us soulmates. Yet I believed we were both. Forbidden soulmates. When I arrived to Edgewood, Wisconsin I didn't plan to find him. I didn't plan to stumble into Joe's bar and have Daniel's music stir up my emotions. I had no clue that his voice would make my hurts forget their own sorrow. I had no idea that my happiness would remember its own bliss. When I started senior year at my new school, I wasn't prepared to call him Mr. Daniels, but sometimes life happens at the wrong time for all the right reasons. Our love story wasn't only about the physical connection. It was about family. It was about loss. It was about being alive. It was silly. It was painful. It was mourning. It was laughter. It was ours. And for those reasons alone, I would never apologize for loving Mr. Daniels. -Ashlyn Jennings

Book excerpt: I had always been the invisible art student in high school. Passed by. Glossed over. Unnoticed. Now I was Aria Watson...that girl. After one bad decision, and being labeled a slut, I was no longer unseen. I was the whore. The ignoramus. The tramp. I would never be invisible again. Particularly to Levi Myers. He was the odd boy with the beautiful soul who accepted and understood the broken girl inside me. Falling in love wasn't the plan. But how could I resist his promises of hope? Of forgiveness? Of a future I had stopped dreaming of? We were shattered. We were scarred. We were something strange and beautiful. We were two lost souls holding on to the only thing that could keep us together. Each other.

Readers will experience a soft, personal side of Charlie Daniels that has never before been documented. In his own words, he presents the path from his post-depression childhood to performing for millions as one of the most successful country acts of all time and what he has learned along the way. The book also includes insights into the many musicians that orbited Charlie’s world, including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Tammy Wynette and many more. Charlie was officially inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016, shortly before his 80th birthday. He now shares the inside stories, reflections, and rare personal photographs from his earliest days in the 1940s to his self-taught guitar and fiddle playing high school days of the fifties through his rise to music stardom in the seventies, eighties and beyond. Charlie Daniels presents a life lesson for all of us regardless of profession: “Walk on stage with a positive attitude. Your troubles are your own and are not included in the ticket price. Some nights you have more to give than others, but put it all out there every show. You're concerned with the people who showed up, not the ones who didn't. So give them a show and…Never look at the empty seats!”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Elizabeth is still reeling from the death of her husband that took place a year prior. She and her young daughter, Emma, took a year to stay with Elizabeth's mother. When the time has come, Elizabeth and Emma choose to return to their hometown of Meadows Creek, Wisconsin. On the drive back into town, Elizabeth accidentally hits a dog, and the owner grumpily dashes into the street and demands Elizabeth takes him and the dog to the vet. Tristan is the owner of the dog. He's cold and distant, but Elizabeth connects to him in some odd way, even if they didn't have the best first meetings. It is later discovered that Tristan Cole is Elizabeth's new neighbor, and he is tagged as the town's grumpy jerk who is closed-off to everyone around him, outside of Mr. Henson, Tristan's odd and quirky boss who owns the shop Needful Things. While Tristan tries his best to keep his distance from Elizabeth, their paths keep crossing in the small town. The townspeople warn Elizabeth to keep her distance from Tristan, as he's a bad seed, but she cannot help but feel drawn to his darkness. During one of their crossings, Tristan snaps at Elizabeth, telling her that he doesn't want to get to know her, or be her friend, even though she keeps insisting on that happening. He ends up kissing her, which throws them both for a loop, and after said kiss, he accidentally makes her fall down the hill they are standing on, making her get scrapped up and injured. During their next crossing, Tristan finds Elizabeth wandering drunk in the wooded area behind their homes, and he helps her to his house after realizing she's too wasted to be outside alone. They have a heart-to-heart and learn about one another's losses. It is after that connection that they come up with the bad idea to use one another to feel again. They began having a fling, using sex to feel connected to another, to make believe that their loved ones are still around, yet it goes sideways once Elizabeth's grief becomes too loud. It is at that point that Tristan decides that being friends with Elizabeth would be the right option instead of using sex to forget. While the two are building their friendship, and are falling more and more for one another, the best friend of Elizabeth's late husband, Tanner, makes it known that he has feelings for her. Elizabeth explains to Tanner that she cares for him, but not in that way. After Tanner takes the rejection, he is livid to find out that she is seeing the town's jerk, Tristan. Tanner threatens Tristan, and tries to trigger him from time to time, to make him snap in front of Elizabeth. After none of Tanner's tricks works, he goes the extra mile by notifying Elizabeth that it was her late husband who was in the car accident with Tristan's late wife and his son, which led to their deaths. Elizabeth doesn't handle this news well but keeps it to herself because she knows it will destroy Tristan. That was when Tanner took the news and revealed it to Tristan, making Tristan harshly end things with Elizabeth. He leaves town and goes to see his parents, where he falls apart. It is then in those conversations that he learns the night of the accident, after Elizabeth loss her husband, she found Tristan's mom in the lobby of the hospital alone. Elizabeth comforted her, and then went and sat with Tristan's wife so she wouldn't be alone while Tristan's mom went to check on his son. The story concludes with Elizabeth learning that Tanner was the one who messed with her late husband's car, which in turn caused the accident. She learns how obsessed he had been with Elizabeth for years. Tanner caused the accident in order to get Elizabeth's husband out of the picture, so he could be the man in her life. Once Tristan connected those dots, he returned to town to protect Elizabeth and Emma from the craziness that was Tanner. After making sure everyone was safe, Tristan confesses his love for Elizabeth, who loves him fully back, and they begin to build a new life together, while still honoring their loved ones from the past. The Air He Breathes is a story of hope, of compassion, and the true meaning of love"--

Book excerpt: An edgy, sexy USA TODAY bestseller about falling for the one person you can’t have. Maise O’Malley just turned eighteen, but she’s felt like a grown-up her entire life. The summer before senior year, she has plans: get into a great film school, convince her mom to go into rehab, and absolutely do not, under any circumstances, screw up her own future. But life has a way of throwing her plans into free-fall. When Maise meets Evan at a carnival one night, their chemistry is immediate, intense, and short-lived. Which is exactly how she likes it: no strings. But afterward, she can’t get Evan out of her head. He’s taught her that a hookup can be something more. It can be an unexpected connection with someone who truly understands her. Someone who sees beyond her bravado to the scared but strong girl inside. That someone turns out to be her new film class teacher, Mr. Evan Wilke. Maise and Evan resolve to keep their hands off each other, but the attraction is too much to bear. Together, they’re real and genuine; apart, they’re just actors playing their parts for everyone else. And their masks are slipping. People start to notice. Rumors fly. When the truth comes to light in a shocking way, they may learn they were just playing parts for each other, too. Smart, sexy, and provocative, Unteachable is about what happens when a love story goes off-script.

Book excerpt: A 2015 Whitney Award Nominee! A powerful story of loss, second chances, and first love, reminiscent of Sarah Dessen and John Green. When Oakley Nelson loses her older brother, Lucas, to cancer, she thinks she’ll never recover. Between her parents’ arguing and the battle she’s fighting with depression, she feels nothing inside but a hollow emptiness. When Mom suggests they spend a few months in California with Aunt Jo, Oakley isn’t sure a change of scenery will alter anything, but she’s willing to give it a try. In California, Oakley discovers a sort of safety and freedom in Aunt Jo’s beach house. Once they’re settled, Mom hands her a notebook full of letters addressed to her—from Lucas. As Oakley reads one each day, she realizes how much he loved her, and each letter challenges her to be better and to continue to enjoy her life. He wants her to move on. If only it were that easy. But then a surfer named Carson comes into her life, and Oakley is blindsided. He makes her feel again. As she lets him in, she is surprised by how much she cares for him, and that’s when things get complicated. How can she fall in love and be happy when Lucas never got the chance to do those very same things? With her brother’s dying words as guidance, Oakley knows she must learn to listen and trust again. But will she have to leave the past behind to find happiness in the future? Book excerpt: Daniel finds the poetry in the everyday activities of his own neighborhood, in this gorgeous companion to Ezra Jack Keats Award winner Daniel Finds a Poem. The people in Daniel's neighborhood always say, "Have a good day!" But what exactly is a good day? Daniel is determined to find out, and as he strolls through his neighborhood, he finds a wonderful world full of answers as varied as his neighbors. For Emma, a good day means a strong wind for kite flying. For the bus driver, a good day means pleases and thank-yous. A good day is bees for the gardener, birthdays for the baker, and wagging tails for the mail carrier. And, for Daniel's grandma, a good day is a hug from Daniel! And when Daniel puts all these good days together, they make a lovely poem full of his neighbors' favorite things. Micha Archer's vivid collages bring to life one special day, and her inviting text celebrates a vibrant community and an appreciation for the many simple things that give us joy.
