For quick access, parts of the EPC are provided with an edge index visible on the closed book's edge, articles are always started at the top of a page, and related rules of the Implementing Regulations are assigned to the articles. The commenting is performed in a two-column layout, which allows non-disrupted reading of the legal texts in the left column, as well as authors' comments assigned to the individual paragraphs in the right column. Comments are generally kept in a short style, reduced to the essentials, and distinct in colour from official texts.
