Book excerpt: somewhere for my soul to go weaves memoir, travel stories, and inspiration into one woman's journey to a legacy. Pasco uses journal entries and vignettes from her many trips to Chiapas, Mexico, to produce a narrative that is both humorous and sobering. Her account of the founding of Mujeres de Maiz Opportunity Foundation includes a heart-warming glimpse of the indigenous women and girls of a weaving/seamstress cooperative, their educational progress, and the obstacles they confront in their daily lives. Pasco's book showcases an adventurous spirit in a humanitarian endeavor but also depicts an older woman who is realistic about her own shortcomings in challenging situations.

Book excerpt: For Christopher Day, architecture isn’t just about the appearance of buildings but how they’re experienced as places to be in. Occupants’ experience can differ radically from designers’ intentions as their concerns and thinking differ. Additionally, multi-sensory ambience, spatial sequential experience and embodied spirit resonate in the human soul. Sustainable design means much more than energy-efficiency: if sustainable buildings don’t also nourish the soul, occupant-building interaction will lack care and eco-technologies won’t be used efficiently. This major revision of his classic text builds on more than forty years of experience ecological design across a range of climates, cultures and budgets, and 25 years hands-on building. Treating buildings as environments intrinsic to their surroundings, the book explores consensus design, economic and social sustainability, and how a listening approach can grow architectural ideas organically from the interacting, sometimes conflicting, requirements of place, people and situation. This third edition, comprehensively revised to incorporate new knowledge and address new issues, continues Day’s departure from orthodox contemporary architecture, offering eye-opening insights and practical design applications. These principles and guidelines will be of interest and value to architects, builders, planners, developers and homeowners alike. Reviews of the first edition ... one of the seminal architecture books of recent times Professor Tom Wooley, Architects Journal The 'bible' of many architects and those interested in architecture. Centre for Alternative Technology ... an inspiration to all those who care about the influence of the environment on Man’s health and well-being. Barrie May, The Scientific and Medical Network At last an architect has written a sensitive and caring book on the effects of buildings on all our lives. Here’s Health This gentle book offers a route out of the nightmare of so much callous modern construction. I was inspired. Colin Amery, The Financial Times

With those few words in August 1973, Sarah Chambers, her husband Richard, and their good friends Alice and Dick started a journey that took them far beyond anything they could possibly imagine. They explored the unseen realm of the spiritual world with their teacher "Michael." Along with good friend Eugene Trout, they created a new spiritual teaching - based in love - that helps people become more of who they truly are. The group kept transcripts of their meetings and those transcripts were copied and passed around to their friends and coworkers, then copied and passed to many others over the years. Volume 2 contains compilations, drawings, charts, information about the group members and a history of the Michael Teachings. . . . "Why am I here?" someone asked one night. Michael answered, "To hear the words you didn't hear 2,000 years ago. Maybe this time, you will listen."

This is a powerful story of one Polish family’s escape from war-torn Europe after the Second World War, and the life they built as newcomers in a small community in western Canada. They brought with them the hope for a better life, but their war time experiences were a constant burden interfering with their inner peace and desire for security. The story of their lives, struggles and successes, aims to create a legacy of hope for their descendants and anyone with a similar cultural history or experience. It is a must read for those wanting an understanding of that era, as well as seeing how the experiences of this family were reflective in many ways to today’s ongoing refugee crisis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book/play was written to give those who seek their purpose in society some hope to cope in a world that's so unevenly divided. Life becomes difficult for those who understand their footprints must be left in the sands to remain hopeful. We wrote Breaking the Soul of a Folk from our own experience. This book/play gives a face to the homeless and explains why we, as a civilized nation, should care. We added our poetry and illustrations to give our readers a fuller picture of the concept(s) that we are trying to convey. Finally, we want our readers to UNDERSTAND that equality is for every woman and man as we continue to fight until leaders set their standards and qualifications to advance all races regardless of their previous economic condition. So, we included our play entitled In Search of My Soul to show our readers why we feel that we must stop designing standards to exclude the homeless and stop allowing programs funding that treat them as if they are criminals. What our ancestor wrote earlier still holds true today. This is that the homeless deserve the right to be treated with dignity and be afforded the right to seek their individual purpose. You see, even the homeless will have to come and be judged; for one thing is for certain and that's DEATH, which is everyone's FINAL CURTAIN.

Book excerpt: Rico Paganini, one of the leading megalithic, geomantic and spiritual researchers has visited all the Earths major power points. In this book we travel along with him.And we are able to share in his stirring experiences, in sensitive discoveries and the wondrous insights that he was able to gain. He has not compiled them for himself, but for us all.Perhaps he could only manage his adventures travels, bear the travails and overcome some resistance because the spiritual world was on his side accompanied him, encouraged him and led him with direct guidance. These received messages are also an essential and moving part of this book, and are a special feature is astonishing. As is the telling of the tale of the spiritual and material creation, and the fact that Mother Earth is alive and is conscious; our ancestors had not yet forgotten this.He also leads us through the destruction of the environment, climate changes and the increasing natural catastrophes. What have we done?At the same time, he presents us with solution paths, gives us courage and hope in this dramatic turning point; it is not yet too late!Hence, GAIA LEGACY is much more than a travel report and insight into the power points. It is one can say without exaggeration an incomparable book full of awakening and strength, just as the fifteenth power source

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Another book of quotations? Indeed there are numerous excellent extant anthologies of quotations, but these tend to be very broad, with a bias toward classical and well-known authors; those works which document the contributions of Black authors have tended to focus on African-Americans, considerable as their output is. Undeniable recognition of this prevalence is reflected in the title of the present volume which pays homage to W. E. B. Du Bois? classic work and in the preponderance of entries from American sources. Nevertheless, effort has been made to cast a wider net to capture under-represented and unfamiliar voices. Khemetic texts preserved in papyri and stelae are the earliest literature to have survived, followed by the writings of North African Romans and Ethiopian philosophers and clerics, and the lately recovered Timbuktu manuscripts from their repositories in the desert sands of Mali. The Transatlantic slave experience gave rise to the slave narratives and abolitionist literature from both sides of the Atlantic, which remained predominant right up to the 20th century. Post-Emancipation under colonial rule and white domination, Black poetry and prose emerged, adhering to prevailing standards, evidenced typically in the work of Phillis Wheatley and the sonnets of Claude McKay. With the Civil Rights and Black Power movements would come iconoclastic expressions of protest and identity. There is a sizeable body of literature by Black authors from Africa and the diaspora who speak to universal values and eternal verities. This anthology of their work focuses on the inner life, on personal development and self-actualization. 3000 quotations have been selected to inspire, enlightenand encourage; they have been arranged in 200 psycho-spiritual categories and in chronological order. The resulting timeline of thought in itself is useful and instructive as it demonstrates very clearly the evolution of consciousness evident in the contemporary thinking on particular subjects. Like its predecessor, Wisdom for the Soul: Five Millennia of Prescriptions for Spiritual Healing, this volume contains a full biographical index and bibliographical references. Much of the material is anthologized here for the first time.
