Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skydivers Guide to Religion and the Meaning of Life This book is a philosophical examination of our belief systems and provokes a critical examination of religious beliefs, our way of looking at the world , our interpretation of the meaning of life, and our ultimate fate. It asks the question, how valid are our beliefs in the context of the society we are raised in, our family and peers own beliefs and the effect of mainstream religion and the State in modifying what we believe, or more to the point, what we say we believe. Controversy and a little irreverent humour is guaranteed. Is man the ultimate creation living in a Cosmos that has been provided by a supreme entity solely for his benefit in much the same way as we would house our pet rabbits in a cage or is that just too simplistic a view?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham left his hometown for a promise. Moses parted the Red Sea. Joseph saved his family and the country. David conquered Goliath. Elijah rode out on a chariot of fire. Peter walked on water. We may think these stories are crazy, yet Scripture is filled with them. The beauty is that these stories didn't stop 2000 years ago. They continue to this day, because the same God that lived and breathed within these men, still exists and He lives and breathes within believers around the face of this world today. Did you catch that? Can you imagine sitting down around a campfire and talking to these men at the end of their lives and saying, "Hey, tell me what that was like when you saw God move." To your surprise they just look at you and say something you can't believe, "You can have the same experience, the same type of God story as I do." In this book Chad and I want to challenge the ordinary, push you to your limits where all you can do is trust that God is greater than your circumstance and fear. We want to see young and old come to life, and truly start living out what the Christian Life is all about. Written in a way to make you feel like we are sitting right there talking with you, going through this life together. Hope you like it and prepare yourself to go on a journey that only God can author. To live a life that other's can't believe, and when you are sitting on your back porch, you are now the one being asked, "Tell me what was it like to see God move! This book is a 31 day journey that can be used as a journal. There are questions at the end of every chapter to help you interact with what you have just read. Life is a journey and when you have moved from fear to audacious faith in Jesus, it is never boring.

Book excerpt: A Black woman’s guide to authentic happiness, healing, and radical transformation “If you asked my grandmother what self-care was,” says Chianti Lomax, “I’m pretty sure her response would be: ‘Self-care? That’s for rich white women!’” Our mothers and grandmothers were too busy fighting for the future of their families to often consider their own wellness and happiness—and now, as the inheritors of their mighty labors, we have the opportunity to do more than simply survive. So how do we thrive? How do Black women grow, transform, and make good use of the power they have? In Evolving While Black, Lomax—renowned life coach and “Chief Happiness Curator”—shares a guide to help Black women achieve authentic happiness and liberation on their own terms. By shifting the culturally constrained language and perspective from which mindfulness and self-care practices are normally presented, she breaks down barriers and invites us to bring the power of these evidence-based teachings into our lives, families, and communities. This joyous book paves the way for personal growth, presenting bite-size actions that lead to healing, confidence, self-efficacy, and, most importantly, true self-love. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our lives today are oppressed by the demand that we live, feel and experience with ever greater intensity. We are enticed to try exotic flavors and smells; urged to enjoy a wide range of sexual experiences; pushed to engage in extreme sports and recreational drugs - all in the pursuit of some new, unheard-of intensity.Tristan Garcia argues that such intensity rarely lives up to its promise. It always comes at a price: one that defines the ethical predicament of contemporary life. The notion of intensity was the hidden key to Garcia's landmark book Form and Object. In The Life Intense, the first part of his ambitious Letting Be trilogy, he begins to develop it in detail. This first book focuses on ethics; the forthcoming volumes will be devoted to politics and then metaphysics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triathlons, such as the famously arduous Ironman Triathlon, and “extreme” mountain biking—hair-raising events held over exceedingly dangerous terrain—are prime examples of the new “lifestyle sports” that have grown in recent years from oddball pursuits, practiced by a handful of characters, into multi-million-dollar industries. In Why Would Anyone Do That? sociologist Stephen C. Poulson offers a fascinating exploration of these new and physically demanding sports, shedding light on why some people find them so compelling. Drawing on interviews with lifestyle sport competitors, on his own experience as a participant, on advertising for lifestyle sport equipment, and on editorial content of adventure sport magazines, Poulson addresses a wide range of issues. He notes that these sports are often described as “authentic” challenges which help keep athletes sane given the demands they confront in their day-to-day lives. But is it really beneficial to “work” so hard at “play?” Is the discipline required to do these sports really an expression of freedom, or do these sports actually impose extraordinary degrees of conformity upon these athletes? Why Would Anyone Do That? grapples with these questions, and more generally with whether lifestyle sport should always be considered “good” for people. Poulson also looks at what happens when a sport becomes a commodity—even a sport that may have begun as a reaction against corporate and professional sport—arguing that commodification inevitably plays a role in determining who plays, and also how and why the sport is played. It can even help provide the meaning that athletes assign to their participation in the sport. Finally, the book explores the intersections of race, class, and gender with respect to participation in lifestyle and endurance sports, noting in particular that there is a near complete absence of people of color in most of these contests. In addition, Poulson examines how concepts of masculinity in triathlons have changed as women’s roles in this sport increase.
