You realize that to find love you must first learn how to encompass love and use that self-love as the benchmark for teaching others how to treat you. You learn that wisdom is a beautiful gift that comes with age and that it is acquired through facing challenges and persevering, even in the face of utter grief. You learn that only in the darkest times can deep enlightenment and understanding be revealed. You learn that a broken heart not only mends, but it grows bigger and brighter than ever before. And from it, you are able to cherish every connection around you with so much more depth than you ever thought possible. You learn that in order to see clarity in your life, you must take a step back, look at yourself with self-awareness, with self-acceptance, and see the world from another’s view. And with every day you learn a little bit more about yourself, your life, and your connection with the Universe. And that there is one key element needed for all of this beautiful understanding to come through—the willingness to try again, no matter how many times you fall down, no matter how many times you fail, you must get back up and keep going. That’s the real secret. Resilience, acceptance, courage, and hope. It’s the unshakable faith in the Universe. It’s believing that you are always divinely guided, supported, loved, and cherished. Book excerpt: "The idea of sacred space has not been considered a relevant topic in recent architecture, a neglect even more pronounced in terms of debates about the city. The texts and projects in this book aim to redress this oversight, and re-open a contemporary understanding of its relevance. The book itself is the result of a year-long investigation developed in the AA's Diploma Unit 14. It consists of design proposals that range from a mult-ifaith school in Strasbourg to the reconstruction of a festival hall in the city of Xian, China; from a Jesuit monastery in Detroit to a women's Islamic centre in Paris. The book is complemented by essays by Pier Vittorio Aureli, Maria Shéhérazade Giudici and Hamed Khosravi." -- Provided by publisher.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, a distinguished team of authors explores the way space, place, architecture, and ritual interact to construct sacred experience in the historical cultures of the eastern Mediterranean. Essays address fundamental issues and features that enable buildings to perform as spiritually transformative spaces in ancient Greek, Roman, Jewish, early Christian, and Byzantine civilizations. Collectively they demonstrate the multiple ways in which works of architecture and their settings were active agents in the ritual process. Architecture did not merely host events; rather, it magnified and elevated them, interacting with rituals facilitating the construction of ceremony. This book examines comparatively the ways in which ideas and situations generated by the interaction of place, built environment, ritual action, and memory contributed to the cultural formulation of the sacred experience in different religious faiths.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first three centuries of Christianity are increasingly seen in modern scholarship as sites of complexity. Sacred Ritual, Profane Space examines the Christian meeting places of the time and overturns long-held notions about the earliest Christians as utopian rather than place-bound people. By mapping what is known from early Christian texts onto the archaeological data for Roman domestic spaces, Jenn Cianca provides a new lens for examining the relationship between early Christianity and sites of worship. She proposes that not only were Roman homes sacred sites in their own right but they were also considered sacred by the Christian communities that used them. In many cases, meeting space would have included the presence of the Roman domestic cult shrines. Despite the fact that the domestic cult was polytheistic, Cianca asserts that its practices likely continued in places used for worship by Christians. She also argues that continued practice of the domestic cult in Roman domestic spaces did not preclude Christians from using houses as churches or from understanding their rituals or their meeting places as sacred. Raising a host of questions about identity, ritual affiliation, and domestic practice, Sacred Ritual, Profane Space demonstrates how sacred space was constructed through ritual enactment in early Christian communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental changes in society and culture are forcing us to reconsider the position of sacred space, and to do this within the broader context of ritual and religious dynamics and what is called a 'spatial turn'. This collection of studies on sacred space concerns itself with both perspectives by exploring place-bound dynamics of the sacred in Africa and Europe. Cultural dynamics, identities and ownership, and contestations are very much interrelated. The essays and cases show that, via these contested fields, identities are always at stake.
