Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This primer provides a concise, methodological approach to abdominal MR imaging techniques. It offers the user an invaluable pictorial and textual guide to typical features of the most commonly seen entities encountered by the clinician. The authors place an emphasis on a pattern recognition approach, thereby focusing on clinical-pathologic correlation (i.e., the morphological characteristics and pathologic criteria necessary to diagnose disease), as opposed to disease epidemiology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While MRI has proved itself to be an excellent diagnostic noninvasive modality for imaging of the brain, medulla, and musculoskeletal system due to its high intrinsic con trast resolution and tissue characterisation potential based on the judicious application of specific sequences, this has not been the case in the abdomen and pelvis. The reasons are the long exposure time and the lower spatial resolution, inherent to MRI. However, during recent years considerable process has been achieved in MRI of the abdominal and pelvic organs due to the development of new and more rapid imaging sequences and the routine clinical application of specific magnetic resonance contrast media. Consequently for some anatomical areas such as the female genital organs and the biliary system MRI is already the best performing morphological diagnostic modality. However, the question arises as to wether MRI, given its performance capabilities, should not also be considered a primary diagnostic modality for the study of parenchymal organs like the liver, spleen, and pancreas, and not merely as a complen tary modality to solve residual problems after ultrasonography and computed tomog raphy have been performed. Although the future role of MRI in respect of the gas trointestinal tube itself is still somewhat unclear, some possibilities for routine clinical use are becoming visible even in this abdominal field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This superbly illustrated book describes a comprehensive and modern approach to the imaging of abdominal and pelvic emergencies of traumatic and non-traumatic origin. The aim is to equip the reader with a full understanding of the roles of advanced cross-sectional imaging modalities, including dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To this end, recent literature on the subject is reviewed, and current controversies in acute abdominal and pelvic imaging are discussed. Potential imaging and related pitfalls are highlighted and up-to-date information provided on differential diagnosis. The first two chapters explain an evidence-based approach to the evaluation of patients and present dose reduction strategies for multidetector CT imaging (MDCT). The remaining chapters describe specific applications of MDCT, DECT, and MRI for the imaging of both common and less common acute abdominal and pelvic conditions, including disorders in the pediatric population and pregnant patients. The book will be of value to emergency and abdominal radiologists, general radiologists, emergency department physicians and related personnel, general and trauma surgeons, and trainees in all these specialties.

Book excerpt: This book is concerned with imaging of the interior of the human body using signals originating from magnetic moments of hydrogen nuclei and detected using a technique known as magnetic resonance. It explains the method and gives examples of applications. The book is addressed to those who would like to understand the principle of the method exactly, but do not have university training in physics and mathematics. It will therefore be very useful to medical practitioners and researchers, radiologists, and auxiliary workers in the health service.
