Jane Austen’s classic romance has been re-envisioned as an elegant boy’s love story. Eliazar Bennet is the second of five sons whose mother wants nothing more for them all to be married off too good husbands. However the issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of an alternate history of the landed gentry of early 19th- century England may keep these young men from finding their true place in society and true love.

"I'll stop by my house and I'll be right there. My mom said she steamed the ribs and fed you some." "Steamed ribs? Awesome good...! But I'm just on my way to work, so what? I'm probably going to go home tonight or dinner..." "There's Candy in the house, right? I'll wait while playing with Candy and see your later." "Okay, so let's have dinner with us today." "Okay, see you." As he hung up the phone and was about to put his phone in the pocket, the wind brushed his legs and he felt something empty. That familiar and empty feeling, always embarrassing, that he often suffered. "Oh... You crazy bastard again!" He cursed reflexively, but the pocket of his pants where he was about to put his phone was already gone. And all that's missing was his pants pocket. The T-shirt, socks, and bag he was wearing were all gone in the blink of an eye, and he was now standing in the middle of the street wearing nothing but a triangle brief, sneakers, and a colorful mask on his face. "Ugh... Kaa…" "Aah, Please spare me...!" From the downtown side, he heard people screaming and something exploding loudly. He gritted his teeth and ran in the direction of the sound. Stepping on the bonnet of a car that was speeding on the other side of the road, he jumped high onto the building's exterior wall, flying between the skyscrapers and arriving in the center of the city where the explosion occurred. Even today, his name was Panty Hero, who went out to protect the peace in the city. "Wow, Panty Hero!" People trapped in the building as the flames soared high found him and screamed. After breaking a window on the roof of the building next door and entering the building, Panty Hero rescued the endangered citizens, placed them on a safe ground, and set out to find the perpetrator of this horrific attack. "You've finally appeared, Panty Hero! Today is the last day of you!" "Mankini, you bastard... It's your doing!" Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several years, the Thai popular culture landscape has radically transformed due to the emergence of “Boys Love” (BL) soap operas which celebrate the love between handsome young men. Boys Love Media in Thailand: Celebrity, Fans, and Transnational Asian Queer Popular Culture is the first book length study of this increasingly significant transnational pop culture phenomenon. Drawing upon six years of ethnographic research, the book reveals BL's impacts on depictions of same-sex desire in Thai media culture and the resultant mainstreaming of queer romance through new forms of celebrity and participatory fandom. The author explores how the rise of BL has transformed contemporary Thai consumer culture, leading to heterosexual female fans of male celebrities who perform homoeroticism becoming the main audience to whom Thai pop culture is geared. Through the case study of BL, this book thus also investigates how Thai media is responding to broader regional trends across Asia where the economic potentials of female and queer fans are becoming increasingly important. Baudinette ultimately argues that the center of queer cultural production in Asia has shifted from Japan to Thailand, investigating both the growing international fandom of Thailand's BL series as well as the influence of international investment into the development of these media. The book particularly focuses on specific case studies of the fandom for Thai BL celebrity couples in Thailand, China, the Philippines, and Japan to explore how BL series have transformed each of these national contexts' queer consumer cultures.

Book excerpt: There's a strong interest in reading for pleasure or self-improvement in America, as shown by the popularity of Harry Potter, and book clubs, including Oprah Winfrey's. Although recent government reports show a decline in recreational reading, the same reports show a strong correlation between interest in reading and academic acheivement. This set provides a snapshot of the current state of popular American literature, including various types and genres. The volume presents alphabetically arranged entries on more than 70 diverse literary categories, such as cyberpunk, fantasy literature, flash fiction, GLBTQ literature, graphic novels, manga and anime, and zines. Each entry is written by an expert contributor and provides a definition of the genre, an overview of its history, a look at trends and themes, a discussion of how the literary form engages contemporary issues, a review of the genre's reception, a discussion of authors and works, and suggestions for further reading. Sidebars provide fascinating details, and the set closes with a selected, general bibliography. Reading in America for pleasure and knowledge continues to be popular, even while other media compete for attention. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boys Love Manga and Beyond looks at a range of literary, artistic and other cultural products that celebrate the beauty of adolescent boys and young men. In Japan, depiction of the “beautiful boy” has long been a romantic and sexualized trope for both sexes and commands a high degree of cultural visibility today across a range of genres from pop music to animation. In recent decades, “Boys Love” (or simply BL) has emerged as a mainstream genre in manga, anime, and games for girls and young women. This genre was first developed in Japan in the early 1970s by a group of female artists who went on to establish themselves as major figures in Japan’s manga industry. By the late 1970s many amateur women fans were getting involved in the BL phenomenon by creating and self-publishing homoerotic parodies of established male manga characters and popular media figures. The popularity of these fan-made products, sold and circulated at huge conventions, has led to an increase in the number of commercial titles available. Today, a wide range of products produced both by professionals and amateurs are brought together under the general rubric of “boys love,” and are rapidly gaining an audience throughout Asia and globally. This collection provides the first comprehensive overview in English of the BL phenomenon in Japan, its history and various subgenres and introduces translations of some key Japanese scholarship not otherwise available. Some chapters detail the historical and cultural contexts that helped BL emerge as a significant part of girls’ culture in Japan. Others offer important case studies of BL production, consumption, and circulation and explain why BL has become a controversial topic in contemporary Japan.
