Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite significant achievements, the discipline of supply chain management is still unable to satisfactorily handle many practical real-world challenges. The authors of Networks Against Time claim that a unified supply chain network analytics framework is needed which should be able to handle optimization and competitive behavior while also maintain relevance to many industrial sectors in which perishable products are prominent, from healthcare to food and from fashion apparel to technology. This Brief provides a wide range of critical supply chain problems which are modeled as generalized networks. Guidelines are provided to determine the arc multipliers that capture perish ability of the product whether food, radioisotopes, or even highly perishable blood in healthcare over space and time. Through case studies the authors portray the application of the models and algorithms to real-world sectors which illustrate the power of the framework in practice. The models and algorithms are fully described along with the input and output data in the case studies. This level of transparency is useful pedagogically as well as for future research and for applications in practice. Researchers and practitioners in mathematics, in operations research and management science, operations management, as well as in economics and computer science will find this book useful to gain a broader appreciation of the richness of network supply chain structures, processes, and applications. This book can also be used by advanced undergraduate students and graduate students in the disciplines noted above to familiarize themselves with methodologies and supply chain network models and applications.

Our obsession with time is evident in this continued scaling down to nanosecond resolution and beyond. But this obsession is not without warrant. Precision and time synchronization are critical in many applications, such as air traffic

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unified approach to the analysis and design of traffic management controls in circuit switching, packet switching, LAN, MAN, narrowband, and broadband integrated services networks is presented in this volume, along with an in-depth survey of management and control schemes which are used to allocate network resources to different users in a dynamic environment, meeting user performance requirements. Stress is placed on the role of measurements and network information patterns. Also included is a presentation of control procedures being insensitive to detailed values of control parameters and exact statistics of offered traffic, and performance analysis of automatic network management controls under nonstationary load conditions.

Book excerpt: This monograph studies the synchronization control of Markovian complex neural networks with time-varying delays, and the structure of the book is summarized as follows. Chapter 1 introduces the system description and some background knowledges, and also addresses the motivations of this monograph. In Chapter 2, the stochastic synchronization issue of Markovian coupled neural networks with partially unknown transition rates and random coupling strengths is investigated. In Chapter 3, the local synchronization issue of Markovian neutral complex networks with partially information of transition rates is investigated. The new delay-dependent synchronization criteria in terms of LMIs are derived, which depends on the upper and lower bounds of the delays. In Chapter 4, the local synchronization issue of Markovian nonlinear coupled neural networks with uncertain and partially unknown transition rates is investigated. The less conservative local synchronization criteria containing the bounds of delay and delay derivative are obtained based on the novel augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and a new integral inequality. In Chapter 5, the sampled-data synchronization issue of delayed complex networks with aperiodic sampling interval is investigated based on enhanced input delay approach, which makes full use of the upper bound of the variable sampling interval and the sawtooth structure information of varying input delay. In Chapter 6, the sampled-data synchronization issue of Markovian coupled neural networks with mode-dependent interval time-varying delays and aperiodic sampling intervals is investigated based on an enhanced input delay approach. Furthermore, the mode-dependent sampled-data controllers are proposed based on the delay dependent synchronization criteria. In Chapter 7, the synchronization issue of inertial neural networks with time-varying delays and generally Markovian jumping is investigated. In Chapter 8, we conclude the monograph by briefly summarizing the main theoretical findings.

Book excerpt: This book provides up-to-date developments in the stability analysis and (anti-)synchronization control area for complex-valued neural networks systems with time delay. It brings out the characteristic systematism in them and points out further insight to solve relevant problems. It presents a comprehensive, up-to-date, and detailed treatment of dynamical behaviors including stability analysis and (anti-)synchronization control. The materials included in the book are mainly based on the recent research work carried on by the authors in this domain. The book is a useful reference for all those from senior undergraduates, graduate students, to senior researchers interested in or working with control theory, applied mathematics, system analysis and integration, automation, nonlinear science, computer and other related fields, especially those relevant scientific and technical workers in the research of complex-valued neural network systems, dynamic systems, and intelligent control theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focused on solving competition-based problems, this book designs, proposes, develops, analyzes and simulates various neural network models depicted in centralized and distributed manners. Specifically, it defines four different classes of centralized models for investigating the resultant competition in a group of multiple agents. With regard to distributed competition with limited communication among agents, the book presents the first distributed WTA (Winners Take All) protocol, which it subsequently extends to the distributed coordination control of multiple robots. Illustrations, tables, and various simulative examples, as well as a healthy mix of plain and professional language, are used to explain the concepts and complex principles involved. Thus, the book provides readers in neurocomputing and robotics with a deeper understanding of the neural network approach to competition-based problem-solving, offers them an accessible introduction to modeling technology and the distributed coordination control of redundant robots, and equips them to use these technologies and approaches to solve concrete scientific and engineering problems.
