Enjoy the next offering in the humorous, best selling Regency series - welcome to Chipping Way as another bachelor is about to fall in love with one of the strikingly beautiful Farthingales. Leonides Poole, the Marquess of Muir is a much-admired agent of the Crown. He has just returned to London after spending the last four years imprisoned in an enemy dungeon. Now that he has been released, he is determined to find the man who betrayed him and exact his revenge. The problem with his well-crafted plan is his unexpected feelings for Marigold Farthingale, the little ray of sunshine who lives next door to him on Chipping Way. She seems to understand ancient skulls and bones more than she understands men. Yet, Leonides knows if he exacts his vengeance, he will lose out on the promise of happiness with the beautiful bluestocking. Which does he value more? The answer is suddenly not so clear. Marigold Farthingale is quite excited about the dragon-like animal whose skull she discovered while on archeological exploration in Devonshire. She has now returned to London with a crate full of bones she must deliver to the Huntsford Academy and is delighted when her new neighbor, the fierce and reclusive Marquess of Muir, agrees to assist her. She has never met anyone quite like this handsome man. He is intelligent, fierce, and endowed with a stunning musculature she would love to explore. But he is too tormented to think about courtship and marriage. Marigold is about to make her Society debut. It seems such a fuss when the only man she wishes to marry is the marquess. Perhaps if she discovered his secrets...how dangerous can they be? Book excerpt: Marigold is determined to heal the scars of the returning soldier -- especially the ones he has hidden deep within himself. But will he ever open up and let her in? Marigold Tavners has a gentle spirit and a loving heart, though she would prefer to spend her time amongst four-legged creatures than with the guests of her parents’ inn. When she sees a hurt, she has to heal it, no matter the breed of the animal. After the death of his wife, Jacob Rothschild, Marquess of Dorchester, joined the army to distance himself from the tragedy his life had become. Not caring if he lived or died, he survived but was left with a scar across his face that matched the one upon his heart. The bitter marquess manages to keep most away with his surliness, but Marigold has never been able to resist an attempt to heal a broken soul — even if this particular one has no wish to be tended to. The more time they spend together, the more he opens up. But can he do so enough to ever love again?

Ambrose Thorne, Duke of Huntsford, is intrigued when Miss Adela Swift, bluestocking and amateur archeologist, barrels over him while chasing the thief who stole her research papers. What starts out as a harmless diversion to assist her in reclaiming her stolen papers manages to embroil them in scandal, and Ambrose realizes he must do the honorable thing and marry Adela. But she's stubborn and not so quick to accept him. Can he convince her that she might love something beyond her ancient skulls and bones, namely him? Adela Swift's debut Season was an utter disaster and her second is no better until she accidentally knocks over Ambrose Thorne, the Duke of Huntsford. The man is magnificent in every way and London's most sought-after bachelor. He only meant to help her retrieve her stolen notes, but now he is insisting on marrying her. She is madly in love with him, but how can she ever compete with the ton diamonds who swarm around him? Adela wants a love match, not someone who will lose interest in her within a month of their marriage. Is it possible for a scholarly bluestocking like her to ever win the heart of this duke? Book excerpt: The moment Nathaniel Huntingwell, the newly minted Duke of Greenwich, steps into The Wild Rose Inn, a literal run-in with Daisy Tavners changes everything. Recovering from a war wound and hiding his true identity, he is constantly tested by the stubborn and opinionated eldest daughter of the innkeeper, yet he cannot seem to keep away from her. Busy running her parents’ inn, Daisy has no times for secrets. And she definitely doesn’t have time for secret dukes. In fact, she wants nothing more than for the arrogant, self-righteous Mr. Hawke, as she knows him, to leave the inn and her family, for he is clearly hiding something he has no wish to share. Already left for another woman by one of the local gentry, she vows to never trust again -- especially a man who treats her with such superiority. Everything about Daisy and Nathaniel should mean they are absolutely wrong for one another. Yet the more time they spend together, the more they cannot deny that they are inexplicably drawn to one another. When Nathaniel must assume the life of a duke, however, what will happen to Daisy?

Book excerpt: Four young, unmarried sisters run The Wild Rose inn, which sits on the shore of the sleepy, serene, seaside town of Southwold. Until one day, returning soldiers begin to take refuge within their walls, and the flowers see their first blooms in these four Regency romances. A Duke for Daisy The moment Nathaniel steps foot into The Wild Rose Inn simply as Mr. Hawke, everything changes. He is constantly tested by the stubborn and opinionated eldest daughter of the innkeeper, yet he cannot seem to keep away from her. Daisy Tavers, in turn, wants nothing more than for the arrogant, self-righteous man to leave the inn and her family, for he is clearly hiding something he has no wish to share. Everything about Daisy and Nathaniel should mean they are absolutely wrong for another. Yet the more time they spend together, the more they cannot deny that they are inexplicably drawn to one another. When Nathaniel must assume the life of a duke, however, whatever will happen to Daisy? A Marquess for Marigold Jacob Rothschild, the Marquess of Dorchester, arrives at The Wild Rose Inn having survived the war, but left with a scar across his face that matches the one across his heart. While the bitter marquess manages to keep most away with his surliness, Marigold Tavners has never been able to resist an attempt to heal a broken soul — even if this particular one has no wish to be tended to. The more time they spend together, the more he opens up. But can he do so enough to ever love again? An Earl for Iris Iris Tavners met the man of her dreams -- but found out that he was in love with someone else. So she is pleased when August Williams, the Earl of the Westwood, leaves their inn after hiding from the French. He arrives in London to find his fiancée has given her heart to another. He is further chagrined when his identity is compromised and he must return to the Wild Rose Inn. Shocked by August’s return, Iris is determined to resist his charms. But when danger threatens, will the two be drawn together despite their best intentions? A Viscount for Violet After falling for a man who turned out to be the worst kind of fraud, Violet Tavners is determined to never be deceived again. She will not fall in love. Owen Ridlington has faced many foes, but one thing is certain -- he is alone, and he vows it is going to stay that way. When an escaped French spy threatens The Wild Rose Inn, Owen must protect the Tavners family. As they work to defend the town, will Owen and Violet learn that love can always find a way?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, English buccaneers, privateers, and naval expeditions sought fame and fortune in the distant reaches of the South Sea. Beginning with the voyage of Francis Drake in the 1570s and continuing through that of George Anson in the 1740s, a series of predatory English adventurers pursued Spanish treasure, and for a few the dream of riches came true. For most, the voyages ended in disappointment, and sometimes death. This engrossing book investigates these maritime adventures and how they were described in popular accounts of the time--accounts that affected English consciousness and perceptions of the wider world and that influenced the planning and nature of the later great voyages of James Cook and others. Glyndwr Williams, a leading expert on the exploration of the Pacific Ocean, draws on printed accounts of South Sea voyages as well as unpublished records--buccaneer journals, expedition papers, and government documents from public and private archives. For English seamen preying on Spanish trade and treasure, the South Sea was limited to the waters lapping the shores of Chile, Peru, and Mexico. But the vision was wider for others, Williams reveals. Cartographers at home in England, untrammeled by the constraints and dangers of actual voyaging, produced speculative maps with a vast Terra Australis Incognita, with fabulous Islands of Solomon, and with a promised short passage from Atlantic to Pacific. Satirical and utopian writers from Joseph Hall to Jonathan Swift found ample space in the wide ocean for their fictional travelers. And contemporary published voyage accounts--marvelous, though not necessarily reliable--further blurred the line between real and imaginary, contributing to the alluring, exotic image of the South Sea that took root in English folk memory and long outlasted the age of the buccaneers.
