In this, as in the previous numbers, an effort has been made to present in a brief, concise form working references to all published articles relating directly or indirectly to the official drug standards mentioned above. With this object in view, all the available chem ical, medical, and pharmaceutical periodicals and reports have been carefully reviewed and abstracted. In those cases in which the periodical containing the original article was not available, as was frequently the case with certain foreign publications which have not been regularly received in this country since the beginning of the war, the reader has been referred to the journal in which an abstract of the article appeared. This procedure was thought to be preferable to withholding the comment until some future date when the periodi cal containing the original article might become available. The relation of the Pharmacopoeia to public - health work is becoming more and more evident, as Shown by the attention being devoted in pharmacopoeias generally to the materials and tests employed in clinical laboratories and to the standardization of disinfectants and biologics. In this connection, the enormous increase in the use of arsenicals, as a result of the antivenereal disease campaigns being waged in all civilized countries, is also important. For this reason a fairly comprehensive compilation of references to the literature on these subjects has also been included in this bulletin. These references should prove to be of more than ordinary value to officials engaged in public health work.
