Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 7 of Developments in Applied Spectroscopy is a collection of forty-two papers selected from those that were presented at the 7th National Meeting of the Society of Applied Spectroscopy, held (in place of the 19th Mid-America Symposium on Spectroscopy) in Chicago, May 13-17, 1968. These papers, selected by the editors and reviewed by persons knowledgeable in the field, are those of the symposium type and not those pertaining to specific research topics that one would expect to be submitted to a journal. It is the opinion of the committee that this type of publication has an important place in the literature. The relatively large number of papers would result in quite a sizable volume if bound in one set of covers. For this reason, and to present the material in areas of more specific iilterest, Volume 7 was divided into two parts, Part A, Physical-Inorganic, and Part B, Physical-Organic Developments. The 7th National Meeting was sponsored by the Chicago Section as host in cooperation with the St. Louis, New England, Penn York, Niagara-Frontier, Cincinnati, Ohio Valley, New York, Baltimore-Washington, North Texas, Rocky Mountain, and Southeastern Sections of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and the Chicago Gas Chromatography Group. The editors wish to express their appreciation to the authors and to those who helped with the reviewing. The latter include Dr. Elma Lanterman, Mr. John E. Forrette, Dr. Carl Moore, Dr. B. Jaselskis, Mr. H. G. Zelinski, Mr.

Book excerpt: This volume presents some of the papers from the 15th Mid-America Symposium on Spectroscopy held in Chicago on June 2-5, 1964. The Mid-America Symposium is sponsored annually by the Chicago Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, in cooperation with the St. Louis, Niagara Frontier, Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee sections of the Society and the Chicago Gas Chromatography Discussion Group. Although basically a regional meeting, the Symposium continues to draw enthusiastic attendance from coast to coast and numerous foreign countries. The present volume contains 45 of the 110 papers presented at the Symposium. It is with some misgiving that we offer this volume as the proceedings of the meeting with less than half of the total papers included. However, it is the opinion of the Symposium Committee that publication of the excellent material available from the Symposium provides a valuable addition to the literature in the field of spectroscopy. Response to previous volumes of this series seems to verify this opinion. As Chairman of the Symposium and Editor of this volume, I express my sincere appreciation to the authors whose manuscripts make up this volume. I also extend my gratitude to the following members of the Symposium Committee whose time and effort made the 15th Mid-America Symposium a success. Mr. Russell J. Hansen, Exhibits; Mr. Robert L.

The book allows scientists using spectroscopic instruments to find explanations and solutions to their problems when they are confronted with unexpected and unexplained results. Unlike other books on these topics, it explains the root causes of the phenomena that lead to these results. While books on NIR spectroscopy sometimes cover basic chemometrics, they do not mention many of the advanced topics this book discusses. This revised second edition has been expanded with 50% more content on advances in the field that have occurred in the last 10 years, including calibration transfer, units of measure in spectroscopy, principal components, clinical data reporting, classical least squares, regression models, spectral transfer, and more. Written in the column format of the authors’ online magazine Presents topical and important chapters for those involved in analysis work, both research and routine Focuses on practical issues in the implementation of chemometrics for NIR Spectroscopy Includes a companion website with 350 additional color figures that illustrate CLS concepts

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few years, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has rapidly developed into an important and extremely useful method of analysis. In fact, for certain research areas and applications, ranging from material science via chemistry to life sciences, it has become an indispensable tool because this fast and cost-effective type of spectroscopy provides qualitative and quantitative information not available from any other technique. This book offers a balanced overview of the fundamental theory and instrumentation of NIR spectroscopy, introducing the material in a readily comprehensible manner. A considerable part of the text is dedicated to practical applications, including sample preparation and investigations of polymers, textiles, drugs, food and animal feed. However, special topics, such as two-dimensional correlation analysis, are also covered in separate chapters. Written by eight experts in different fields, this book presents an introduction to the current state of developments and is valuable to spectroscopists and to practitioners applying NIR spectroscopy as a daily analytical tool.

Spectroscopic techniques contribute a lot to various diverse research areas including material processing and characterisation, communication, forensic science, defence, etc. The rapid expansion of research activity in the field of material science evokes the need for different analytical and diagnostic techniques. Spectroscopy is such an analytical and diagnostic tool, extremely used to characterise materials. It is now commonly used by astrophysicist, mineralogists, nano-physicists or even scientists working in medical research. This book has therefore been prepared to provide easy access to basic information on different spectroscopy techniques and related instrumentation. This book is intended as a guide to the novice reading technical books or facing the complexities while dealing with the concept of spectroscopic techniques and their instrumentation. The authors of chapters presented in this book are all experts in their fields and were instructed to give substantial information to enable novices to learn and understand the advanced spectroscopic techniques. The present book primarily provides details about the time resolved spectroscopy; laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS); Raman spectroscopy; nonlinear spectroscopy; microwave spectroscopy; up conversion spectroscopy, etc
