Karl’s had a rotten week. He lost another job, a tyrant Man-Hawk invaded the only place he ever called home, and to make things worse, a greedy parrot just revealed that Karl isn’t who he thinks he is. Luckily he has the help of an Oaf, obsessed with revenge but incapable of killing, and Questions, the last of her kind who can only talk in questions. And so Karl’s adventure begins. He’s forced to explore a magical world that terrifies him. He'll make friends, enemies and put his hand in dragon dung. It’s an adventure he doesn’t want to be on, but one which will change his life… forever. Book 2: Rise of the Deathbringer Peace doesn’t last. It’s just a temporary break while war rests. They might as well rename times of peace ‘war holidays’ Karl and his friends have had their fill of conflict and are thankful to live whatever is considered a normal life. But not too far away, a noble deed produces terrifying results, awakening a fearsome foe obsessed with unleashing a power so devastating it could destroy all life on Hastovia. Karl and his friends must find a magic relic, put their trust in the untrustworthy, and make sacrifices that could include their lives. Hastovia needs some heroes. Book 3: In Memory of... Would you risk your afterlife to get back to those you love? Karl has one more adventure in him. Can he stop the greatest evil he's ever faced, or will this be his final adventure for the wrong reasons? Reviews: I heard this was weird, and it definitely is, but the best kind of weird! The author has found a great balance between comedy and fantasy, and I love the characters I met on Karl's journey. It's witty, charming and full of creativity, but it's all so easy to imagine. I can see why some people have likened it to Pratchett, but I think this is somewhere between Pratchett's whimsy and The Princess Bride's charm. I can't wait to read the second book Get the complete collection of the comedy fantasy series now. It's packed with magic, monsters, adventure, strange creatures, and characters you'll wish were your friends, and some you're glad you don't know.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Would you risk your afterlife to get back to those you love? Karl expected the afterlife to be better than swinging a pickaxe at nuggets for a tyrant. Not much better, but definitely slightly better. He misses his home, his friends, and seawater that doesn't burn his skin. He could stick around and spend eternity at the mercy of the deluded narcissist, Zianfer, or he could escape into the unknown and see if it's better. But it's not so straightforward. Others are caught up in his escape and he learns of a horrific maze that leads to a portal back to the Land of the Living. Back home. Unfortunately, Zianfer wants to control that portal so she can rule the realms of the living and the dead. So another perilous adventure begins for Karl. With a half dragon, half giant who needs to get back to stop a war, a vengeful warrior with anger management issues, a friendly face he never expected to meet and others, Karl searches for the maze that will either give him a second chance at the life he sacrificed for others, or be his final quest. Join Karl and his friends in the final book in the comedy fantasy series, full of heart, laughs, strange creatures, and more. If you like epic fantasy with a touch of humour, you'll love this!

Book excerpt: “The most complete and comprehensive guide to character I've ever read." Adam Croft Character is at the heart of every story. We love stories because we fall in love with characters, we want to see what happens to them and we want to see them experience hope and despair. International Emmy nominated writer, Mark Boutros, offers a guide to creating characters who are engaging, emotionally driven and memorable. With experience as a screenwriter, novelist, creative writing teacher and mentor, Mark shares a mixture of theory and creative writing exercises to get you thinking about the questions to have in your mind during character creation. A lot of stories are perfectly functional, hitting all the right beats, but often fall short due to a thin or obvious character. Problems people think are related to plot are often symptoms of a deeper issue with the characters. Mark highlights what is at the core of character, the importance of motivation, trauma, obstacles and how every little detail can enrich an experience for an audience and ultimately make people care. How do you get to know people? By asking questions and getting to know them so you move past the shallow. Do the same during character development and your story will be so much more engaging for it. Each chapter focuses on an aspect important to character development and ends with exercises so you can apply the concepts to your work and write better characters. The book includes: - Goals, desires, lessons - Stakes to your character’s goal - Character flaws - Developing your character’s voice and world view - Generating truthful obstacles - How to write anti-heroes and compelling villains - Character and personality traits - Common mistakes in character writing - Character research - A character questionnaire The majority of the ideas originate from the author’s screenwriting experience, but they apply to all forms of story, whether it be fiction writing or playwriting, because the focus is on what really makes a character stand out and memorable. The job of the writer is to deliver an emotional experience. Character is the heart of that. If you're looking for a book to help you to improve your screenplay writing, fiction writing, or play writing then this is for you. An invaluable tool for beginner and experienced writers. This is perfect for anyone interested in screenwriting books, fiction writing books, or character development books. Praise for The Craft of Character: “Would 100% recommend not only for beginners, but also for experienced writers looking to get to know their characters better. A bit like writer-character therapy.” reader review “Both the chapters and the exercises are easy to understand and get through. Mark Boutros clearly knows his stuff and seems happy to be able to help the reader, rather than becoming lecturing and elitist. The structure of the book also means that it is easy to dip back into, when you come across a specific problem, and as such it is a great little reference book, which any aspiring storyteller would benefit from.” reader review “Normally, I find myself arguing with the author of craft books, but here I would say 90% of what I read were things I either found helpful, or flat out agreed with whole heartedly and just needed a reminder on why these things are important. The exercises were a excellent touch, especially as someone who is teaching writing, it gave me ideas on what to do for my students.” reader review

Cher, the fairest maiden of Bronson Alcott High in Beverly Hills, spends her days merrily match-making and mall-hopping with her best friend Dionne. But her good intentions create mischief for her friends and family, including her new friend Tai, her crush Christian, and her cute stepbrother Josh, turning a comedy of errors into high drama. Book excerpt: "In The Crucible of Faith, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE, during a turbulent "Crucible Era." It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam. Drawing widely on contemporary sources from outside the canonical Old and New Testaments, Jenkins reveals an era of political violence and social upheaval that ultimately gave birth to entirely new ideas about religion, the afterlife, Creation and the Fall, and the nature of God and Satan."--Amazon.
