S W'hile Mr. Johnston's information did not change our status, it did give us cause to fear that the rebels intended to enforce the law in our cases, and did not add to our peace of mind. General Wessells suggested, that as we were about out of ammunition, we should send our negroes across the river into the swamp after dark, and that Major Marvin and I should follow them at the proper time, and try to make our way to our gun-boats then in Albemarle Sound.
