Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John K. Press' The True West vs the Zombie Apocalypse is a mixture of ultra-violent undead slaying action, deep philosophical insight - based on the teachings of Julius Evola, Ernst Jünger, Carl Schmitt, and others - and devout religious inspiration, all from a right-wing, ethnic and traditionalist perspective. Within a reimagined Roman Empire, young gladiators prove their worth and fighting spirit to the jubilant approval of a rejuvenated Western audience, and an army of emboldened crusaders marches forth to crush the menace of moral degeneracy and societal decay emanating from a United States in terminal decline. Hordes of flesh-eating zombies pitted against warriors of valor - who will be victorious in this epic struggle? Reminiscent of the mad fatalism and deep symbolism expressed in Moby Dick, and inspired by the bleak brutality described in Blood Meridian, this is an archetypal American novel that tells us of a new society awakened with hope and built through pragmatism, as well as a new frontier, both literally and metaphysically, being carved out by tenacious men of grit, daring, and deep faith in both their roots and their progeny.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serpent and dragon symbolism is ubiquitous in the art and mythology of premodern cultures around the world. Over the centuries, conflicting hypotheses have been proposed to interpret this symbolism which, while illuminating, have proved insufficient to the task of revealing a singular meaning for the vast majority of examples. In The Serpent Symbol in Tradition, Dr. Dailey argues that, in what the symbolist Rene Guenon and the historian of religions Mircea Eliade have called 'traditional' or 'archaic' societies, the serpent/dragon transculturally symbolizes matter, a state of being that is constituted by the perception of the physical world as chaotic in comparison to what traditional peoples believed to be the 'higher' meta-physical source of the physical world or 'nature.' In the course of Dr. Dailey's investigations into the meaning of traditional serpent/dragon symbolism, the following contributions have proved invaluable: 1) Guénon's interpretation of the language of traditional symbolism and the metaphysics that underlies it, as well as his interpretation of the terminology of the 'Hindu Doctrines,' 2) Eliade's interpretation of traditional/archaic societies by means of his concepts of chaos, creation, Axis Mundi (World Axis), and 'Sacred and Profane,' and 3) the insights of various other researchers of serpent/dragon symbolism. Beyond purporting to resolve some of the mystery of the ancient and varied symbolism of the serpent/dragon, The Serpent Symbol in Tradition strives to serve the related functions of interpreting the symbolic meanings of a wide variety of premodern artifacts and narratives as well as providing a study of the origination, and ancient human awareness, of the mentioned state of matter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American carnage is here. Hollyweird plays the slapping game (Will Smith and all that!). The Woke play the crying game. QAnon plays the game that no one sane can understand. Has America become a satirical show? Is a team of comedians running America? They're all into black comedy, the darker the humor the better, until no one can any longer distinguish comedy from tragedy. Do you want to come backstage, and see behind the scenes, see what's really going on? You are in the theater of the absurd. You must have worked that out by now. Or is it the theater of cruelty? I always get those two mixed up. What's for sure is that thanks to all the madness, Americans became Americants. Can Americans ever get back to America Can? Or is it America Can't from now on? George Bernard Shaw said, "All great truths begin as blasphemies." When you are a conman, everything looks like a con. When you are a sucker, everyone suckers you. A poker proverb says, "If you've been in the game 30 minutes and you don't know who the sucker is, you're the sucker." Did America become a nation of suckers? America is run by conmen, grifters, swindlers and hucksters ruling over patsies, marks, suckers and dupes. That's the truth. Is it the great American blasphemy?! Come inside for the blackest comedy and heaviest irony and satire, as well as lots of serious commentary on the State of the Union. And possible solutions to the nightmare. Trigger Warning (for those of a sensitive disposition): This content contains heavy satire, irony, sarcasm and black comedy. Keep your wits about you.

Book excerpt: In Undead in the West: Vampires, Zombies, Mummies, and Ghosts on the Cinematic Frontier, Cynthia J. Miller and A. Bowdoin Van Riper have assembled a collection of essays that explore the many tropes and themes through which undead Westerns make the genre's inner plagues and demons visible, and lay siege to a frontier tied to myths of strength, ingenuity, freedom, and independence. The volume is divided into three sections: "Reanimating Classic Western Tropes" examines traditional Western characters, symbolism, and plot devices and how they are given new life in undead Westerns; "The Moral Order Under Siege" explores the ways in which the undead confront classic values and morality tales embodied in Western films; and "And Hell Followed with Him" looks at justice, retribution, and retaliation at the hands of undead angels and avenger. The subjects explored here run the gamut from such B films as Curse of the Undead and Billy the Kid vs. Dracula to A-list features like From Dusk 'til Dawn and Jonah Hex, as well as animated films (Rango) and television programs (The Walking Dead and Supernatural). Other films discussed include Sam Raimi's Bubba Ho-Tep, John Carpenter's Vampires, George Romero's Land of the Dead, and Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. Featuring several illustrations and a filmography, Undead in the West will appeal to film scholars, especially those interested in hybrid genres, as well as fans of the Western and the supernatural in cinema.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2012: The Zombie Apocalypse is a riveting tale of survival in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies. A group of unlikely survivors are forced to band together to find salvation in a horror-drenched world. Led by Ryan and surrounded by undead monsters, the survivors journey across the wastelands in search of a precious and increasingly rare commoditylife. "But wait," I say. "The zombies in I Am Legend were just infected and could be cured, not similar to these types of zombies." I sit down on my couch and scratch my head. "I'm being so childish here; I'm comparing what is happening right now to movies. I need to figure out what needs to be done," I say before pushing myself off the couch and walking into my office. I grab a notepad from the desk as well as a pen before returning to the couch and sitting down. I push everything off the table and onto the floor before placing the notepad on the table. "Alright first things first I need to hunker down and hold my position for the night. First thing tomorrow morning I need to get out of the city, it isn't safe here, the population is too high. I can easily get overwhelmed and eaten."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part pop culture trope, part hypothetical cataclysm, the zombie apocalypse is rooted in modern literature, film and mythology. This collection of new essays considers the implications of this scientifically impossible (but perhaps imminent) event, examining real-world responses to pandemic contagion and civic chaos, as well as those from Hollywood and popular culture. The contributors discuss the zombie apocalypse as a metaphor for actual catastrophes and estimate the probabilities of human survival and behavior during an undead invasion.

While there is no scientific proof that the dead can indeed come back to life, there are many terrifying and fascinating examples of real-life zombies in the world around us. Through enthralling text and vivid photographs, students will learn how rabies, which causes the infected to hobble, spasm, drool, and become aggressive and violent, influenced the modern depictions of the zombie. They will also read about a wasp that turns large cockroaches into mindless slaves, even walking them around like dogs, and other parasites, diseases, and substances that cause zombie-like characteristics in the afflicted.
