Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermohydrodynamic models of laser irradiation of metals examines models of continuous- and recurrent-pulse irradiation under conditions of dimensional and thermochemical treatment. Hydrodynamic mechanisms of melt displacement under conditions of dimensional and thermochemical treatment. Hydrodynamic mechanisms of melt displacement under conditions of laser drilling are discussed and the space-time structure of temperature in metal under the effect of a moving recurrent-pulse heat source is studied analytically and numerically. A thermo-hydrodynamic model of the welding process is analyzed and the two-dimensional problem of the heating of metal and melt motion under vapour pressure and surface tension is modelled numerically. Convective stirring of an admixture under the effect of pulsed laser radiation is considered and numerically investigated.

Book excerpt: The role of laboratory research and simulations in advancing our understanding of solar system ices (including satellites, KBOs, comets, and giant planets) is becoming increasingly important. Understanding ice surface radiation processing, particle and radiation penetration depths, surface and subsurface chemistry, morphology, phases, density, conductivity, etc., are only a few examples of the inventory of issues that are being addressed by Earth-based laboratory research. As a response to the growing need for cross-disciplinary dialog and communication in the Planetary Ices science community, this book aims to achieve direct dialog and foster focused collaborations among the observational, modeling, and laboratory research communities.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive handbook provides an overview of space technology and a holistic understanding of the system-of-systems that is a modern spacecraft. With a foreword by Elon Musk, CEO and CTO of SpaceX, and contributions from globally leading agency experts from NASA, ESA, JAXA, and CNES, as well as European and North American academics and industrialists, this handbook, as well as giving an interdisciplinary overview, offers, through individual self-contained chapters, more detailed understanding of specific fields, ranging through: · Launch systems, structures, power, thermal, communications, propulsion, and software, to · entry, descent and landing, ground segment, robotics, and data systems, to · technology management, legal and regulatory issues, and project management. This handbook is an equally invaluable asset to those on a career path towards the space industry as it is to those already within the industry.

This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) works with a number of developing member countries facing fragile and conflict-affected situations---circumstances that complicate economic development, and might include domestic or international conflict, ethnic tensions, vulnerability to natural disasters, or a confluence of these factors. ADB piloted the peacebuilding tool in Nepal as a conflict-sensitive approach, a key to effective and safe implementation of projects in the country's post-conflict context. The peacebuilding tool is an analytical tool for assisting project team leaders and social experts in understanding the local context, and in identifying potential risks to implementation of development projects that are linked to social conflicts, as well as in formulating mitigation measures for addressing these risks.
