The Complete Works of Robert and James Adam is reprinted here in its entirety, updated and corrected. This title covers every one of the 230 or so built works, including 12 that have been recently discovered. It is complemented by a completely new title, Unbuilt Adam. This mentions all the brothers' important unbuilt projects, and it discusses and illustrates 130 of them. This volume gives an exceptionally thorough review of the brothers' designs. From public buildings to country houses, and monuments to ceilings, it is well informed and erudite. It provides a mine of information for both the expert and the general reader, and it uses the works covered to give an understanding of the Adam manner.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anonymous manuscript play has long been the subject of scholarly dispute regarding its relationship with Shakespeare's Richard II. This edition, which thoroughly re-examines the text, situates the play within its historical and political context, relating it to the genre of chronicle drama to which it belongs. The manuscript is of particular interest in that it appears to have been used in the playhouse over a considerable period of time and contains what seems to be evidence of the theatre practice of the time. The play is also of special interest for its skilful and original handling of source material which may well have influenced Shakespeare's Richard II. The extensive appendices drawn from Holinshed, Grafton and Stow provide the reader with the opportunity to investigate the manner in which the dramatist has shaped the material. The editors argue for the play's stage-worthiness and dramatic complexity, suggesting that its range both of dramatic tone and social inclusiveness indicate the work of a dramatist of considerable skill and subtlety, equal or superior to the Shakespeare of the Henry VI plays.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known for his acclaimed biography--Karl Barth: His Life from Letters and Autobiographical Texts--Eberhard Busch subsequently wrote Karl Barth und die Pietism, a book on Barth's relationship to Pietism. Now translated into English, this exchange illuminates and puts into perspective the development of themes found throughout Barth's theological works such as the nature of scriptural authority, hell and universalism, the relationship between believers and unbelievers, the place of our experience in salvation, the preaching of repentance, the nature of conversion, and the relationship between law and gospel. Both Barth's affinity to Pietism and his critique of the movement shed light on his interaction with the English-speaking evangelical world, whose theology was significantly shaped by the Pietist movement. This work will make a significant contribution to Barth scholarship and to the ongoing discussion of Barth's theology, especially among evangelicals and others who share in the Pietistic theological heritage.
