Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wayfarer’s End follows the human person’s journey to union with God in the theologies of Saint Bonaventure and Saint Thomas Aquinas. It argues that these seminal thinkers of the 13th Century emphasize scriptural notions of divine rewards as ordering principles for the graced movement of human viators to eternal life. Divine rewards emerge as a fundamental category through the study’s emphasis on Thomas and Bonaventure as scriptural commentators and preachers whose work in sacra pagina structures the content of their sacra doctrina. Shawn Colberg places Bonaventure’s and Aquinas’s scriptural, dogmatic, and polemical works into conversation and illumines their mutually edifying depictions of the way to eternal life. Looking to the journey itself, The Wayfarer’s End demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the roles played by God and human beings in the movement to full beatitude. To that end, it explores the relationships between grace and human nature, the effects of sin on the human person, the vital themes of predestination, conversion, perseverance, and the place of “reward-worthy” human action within the overall movement toward union with God. While St. Bonaventure and St. Thomas both stress the priority of grace and divine action for the journey, the study also illustrates their distinct frameworks for human action, unpacking Bonaventure’s preference for the language of acceptatio versus Thomas’s emphasis on ordinatio. This difference inflects their language of rewards, their exposition of scripture, and the scope of free human action in the movement to union with God. This study places the two most seminal theologians of the 13th Century into conversation on central and enduring topics of Christian life. Such a comparative study has been sorely lacking in the field of studies on Aquinas and Bonaventure. It offers insight to those interested in high scholastic thought, Franciscan and Dominican understandings of human salvation, and Thomist and Franciscan theology as it pertains to questions of the Reformation, including biblical exegesis on justification and sanctification. Above all, the study appreciates and foregrounds the richness of Bonaventure’s and Aquinas’s vocations: mendicant theologians concerned to share the fruits of contemplation with fellow friars and others seeking the goal of the wayfarer’s end.

The cause is due to psychological trauma and injuries he sustained during a bombing in Afghanistan. Back home he awakens from a terrible dream: His former girlfriend, Thel, is trapped on a lifeguard tower engulfed in flames. He hasn't seen her in more than a year. What he last remembers is being with her at the very same lifeguard tower he dreamt about. There he proposed to her. But she turned him down. An argument followed. And by the next morning, she was gone. That's all Stanley can remember. But his dream does compel him to find out where she now is. Thus his search places him on a pathway filled with ominous and surreal settings. During his one night odyssey, Stanley encounters familiar faces and odd strangers: His former professor, who has a fetish for French films; the professor's daughter, who's preternaturally introspective and well-versed in the paranormal; a deranged lion trainer fed up with the circus; two conjurers who've mastered the old ways of magic; a ghost from the war who tries to help Stanley survive the night; two malevolent thugs with a grudge against him. There's also a lion on the loose. And startling moments do arise when Stanley thinks of seeing Thel float like an apparition through the streets. Stanley returns to old haunts ranging from a coffee shop, a dive bar to a café. There's a car-chase, murder and magic. Eventually, he'll find himself at that one lifeguard tower from his dream. There a strange, forgotten memory will emerge central to Thel's ultimate fate. It involves a mysterious painting. And it will place Stanley between the ideal importance of joy and profound elements of madness!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: he Wayfarers puts its first step forward with Walking Dreams, paces off the miles in Five Feet From the Cabin Door, and culminates with Jacob's Trouble. An intriguing cast of characters that could even be you and your neighbors and friends take both together and separately an unintended journey seeking safety, security, and answers as an America in sudden crisis and the entire world spins out of control into the biblical End of Days. As these individuals are pulled into a natural and supernatural battle against powers, principalities and the rulers of dark places, could they all survive and make it to that place of safety and security? As you survey a radically-changing world today, are you seeking that same eternal refuge? Are you ready to take the walk? Part One - Walking Dreams Can't anything go right!? He's a bright, industrious, and creative man whose world is falling down around him as his very life has become imperiled. As he teeters on the precipice of total breakdown; an automobile's mechanical failure forces this man without an address to begin a walk that was intended to take him to his place of lodging - but would he ever make it there? What colorful and potentially impactful individuals would he meet while on his unplanned walk? While life is tough for our friend; there are others who have it tougher. The suffering individuals that he meets along the way will bless him, enlighten him, and help to prepare him for an epic journey where he will be called upon to play a role of leadership to others as the Unites States of America is inflicted with severe trauma. Part Two - Five Feet From the Cabin Door The world has been flipped on its head as a distressed young woman is rapidly spinning toward rock-bottom and feels compelled to take a walk to try to clear her mind and relieve her burdens. Little does she know that she does not walk alone; but who or what is walking with her? Does it mean her harm or will it ultimately save her? What on earth drove her to come down to this desolate path? Where does this path lead? That same day, a spirit-led man is compelled to take a walk because there is a calling he must answer. There is no time to ask questions, and he too finds that he is not walking alone. Time is of the essence as the landscape and the world as a whole may be changing; albeit suddenly and not for the best. Are these individuals running from trouble, or are they running to a sanctuary that will bring them safety and security? Part Three - Jacob's Trouble Six months after America's worst day - that being a wave of terror attacks on the east coast - the nation has fallen to its knees. The Christian Church has been raptured, or were the UFO's in the sky an indicator of a massive alien abduction instead? The U.S. Dollar is on the verge of collapse as rioting and looting mar the streets of the country's population centers and Martial Law is still in effect - but there are some new sheriffs in town and they are bent on taking over the traditional means of enforcement. Television and radio are being controlled and only one network is left to report the news of the world. It seems that even the weather forecasts are being massaged! A young man and his brother are being watched by the "new sheriffs" and he is led to head "out back" in an effort to stay on the "down-low." But, how far out back or how far away will he and his brother have to go in an effort to stay safe? Will they end up going it alone, or will they meet others along the way to make whatever journey they take a safe one? Will a new man on the world scene have any influence on the events that transpire in the lives of the young man, his brother, or the world? This could be a journey where the end is the beginning at a time when the world is seeing the beginning of the end...
