This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 108 pages, 52 black & white illustrations, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Originally published under a similar title The Book of the Rudge, this 1953 Fifth edition is one of The Motorcyclist's Library series published in the USA by Floyd Clymer by arrangement with the original publishers, Pitman Ltd. of London, England. Obviously, while this re-print of the fifth edition is somewhat specific to the 1933-1939 motorcycles, much of the information is also appropriate to earlier Rudge models. As there is so little repair and maintenance data available for these motorcycles, the information included, while not of the detail or level of a technical manual, will be of assistance to any Rudge motorcycle owner. Models that are covered include the: 250cc Tourist, Rapid & Sport and the 500cc Special, Sports Special & Ulster. This publication has been out-of-print and unavailable for many years and is becoming increasingly more difficult to find on the secondary market and we are pleased to be able to offer this reprint as a service to all Rudge motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE RIVER THAMES above London underwent a dramatic transformation during the Victorian period, from a great commercial highway into a vast conduit of pleasure. Pleasure Boating on the Thames traces these changes through the history of the firm that did more than any other on the waterway to popularise recreational boating. Salter Bros began as a small boat-building enterprise in Oxford and went on to gain worldwide fame, not only as the leading racing boat constructor, but also as one of the largest rental craft and passenger boat operators in the country.Simon Wenham’s illustrated history sheds light on over 150 years of social change, how leisure developed on the waterway (including the rise of camping), as well as how a family firm coped with the changes brought about by industrialisation – a business that, today, still carries thousands of passengers a year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern era, mass-produced motorcycles tend to be Japanese or Italian, with the ‘big four’ oriental manufacturers dominating the market. However, this wasn’t always the case. Until the 1950s, and even into the ’60s, British makers such as Scott, Rudge, BSA, Norton and Vincent ruled the roost. These legendary companies sold their bikes around the world, winning racing championships and setting speed records as they went. They, and many smaller British firms like them, are motorcycling’s founding companies. This is the story of those pioneering firms, whose engineers – many self-taught – were fired by racing ambition, commercial rivalry, patriotic duty and, above all, a passion for innovation. Superbly illustrated with over 150 colour pictures, many previously unpublished, Classic British Motorcycles is a captivating and highly informative account of the men, machines, race meetings and world events that shaped the development of the motorcycle from its bicycle origins. Illustrtations: colour photographs throughout
