In this incredible follow-up to his eight-million-copy bestseller, 90 Minutes in Heaven, Don Piper shares untold stories about his encounters with people who greeted him at the gates of heaven, and offers powerful insights about the way for us to live our lives on earth. Not only did Piper realize he had more to tell, he had yet to share the most sacred and intimate details of his time in heaven about the people who met him at the gates. "I have never left a speaking engagement without people wanting to know more," he said. In The People I Met in Heaven, Piper takes readers deeper into his experience, which includes never-before-told encounters with the people who met him when he arrived in heaven-those who helped him on his journey that led to the entrance to God's heavenly home. Even more, Piper recounts the majesty of heaven and the glorious reunion that awaits us there. Don Piper's incredible true story continues to expand its reach to more people than ever before. After a semi-truck collided with Don Piper's car, he was pronounced dead at the scene. For the next ninety minutes, he experienced the glories of heaven. Back on earth, a passing minister felt led to stop and pray for the accident victim even though he was told Piper was dead. Miraculously, Piper came back to life, and the pleasure of heaven was replaced by a long and painful recovery. This special edition of Don's life-changing story includes a new preface from Don about the making of the movie, plus a personal update on the impact the book has had on him, his family, and the millions who have already heard his story. It also includes a note from the publisher, stories from readers, and Scriptures and quotations on heaven.

Book excerpt: Bob Otis, an unmarketable author who is just starting his own publishing company in order to get his latest novels in print, is abruptly sidetracked when a relative, so distant that Otis doesn’t even place him, phones from Chicago with a request: his father, who has just died, wishes to be buried in the family plot in a small town in Georgia. This call leads to another wonderful comedy of manners as Otis, whose Southern sense of obligations won’t permit him to totally avoid this undertaking, is reluctantly sucked into a family reunion at the burial site: a burial attended by a cast of wonderfully eccentric characters who also have no knowledge of the deceased. This novella is a direct descendant of Fleming’s earlier comic novels: Colonel Effingham’s Raid, Lucinderella, and Captain Bennett’s Folly. Indeed, many of the zany, colorful, and irreverent characters of Lucinderella and Captain Bennett make their reappearances here, as does his fictional town of Fredericksville. In many ways, this novel is reminiscent of Federico Fellini’s film classic 8 1/2, where the Italian director is surrounded by the characters in his life and in his films. Fleming (who was also forced to self-publish his books during his decades of anonymity) brings to life his roots and his creations with a fine mixture of satire, reflection, and nostalgia. In addition to Family Reunion are some fine examples of the author’s gift for short fiction: pieces that touch the heart, the funny bone, and the imagination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This explores the question of when and why violence by and against new religious cults erupts and whether and how such dramatic conflicts can be foreseen, managed and averted. The authors, leading international experts on religious movements and violent behavior, focus on the four major episodes of cult violence during the last decade: the tragic conflagration that engulfed the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas; the deadly sarin gas attack by the Aum Shinrikyo in Tokyo; the murder-suicides by the Solar Temple in Switzerland and Canada; and the collective suicide by the members of Heaven's Gate. They explore the dynamics leading to these dramatic episodes in North America, Europe, and Asia, and offer insights into the general relationship between violence and religious cults in contemporary society. The authors conclude that these events usually involve some combination of internal and external dynamics through which a new religious movement and society become polarized.

A century later, the members of the World War I generation, having passed from their earthly existence, are joyously welcomed to their eternal reward in the House of the Lord. Now, the gates of heaven are opened as The Grand Reunion begins in all of its grandeur and glory. These are their stories from the repulsiveness of the trenches and No Man's Land to the majestic dining halls of heaven, from the charnel slaughter of the Somme, Verdun, the Argonne Forest, and Vimy Ridge to the paradise of The Garden of Eternal Friendship and Lake Saint John the Baptist. During the war their paths crossed as adversaries, now they enter into heaven as members of God's family. Mourn with them, laugh with them, and celebrate with them as you read the stories of The Grand Reunion.
