Book excerpt: This Children stories book is 100 years old being published in 1916 and is now in the public domain.Being part of the Top of the World Stories for Boys and Girls it was written by Finnish author Zachris Topelius for the children of Finland and Sweden and then translated to English by Emilie and Laura Poulsson. It was initially called: THE PRINCESS LINDAGULL.It is, an Arabian Nights tale, and tells the story of Shah Nadir the might King of Persia and his much loved and beautiful daughter The Princess Arabella who, as well as beauty, had a heart noble, tender and good and there was no one in Shah Nadir's whole kingdom who did not love the Princess. The Princess is kidnapped by the evil Wizard Hirmu who took her far away to Lapland. The brave young Arab prince Abderraman made it his mission to rescue the Princess and after much searching and tribulations he found the Princess Arabella and took her back to her father. The grateful King gave the Princess's hand in marriage to the Prince and they married and lived happily ever after.I have left the story in its original version, it is as topical today as it was then, but I have edited a lot of the old style words to make them look and sound modern. I have added some new illustration to make it a much more pleasant experience to the reader and, more importantly, I have changed the name of the Princess to: PRINCESS ARABELLA and the title of the book to: The Princess Arabella, the Prince and the Wizard, an Arabian Nights Fairy Tale.

Book excerpt: "The Arabian Nights" is a 1910 English-language translation of "One Thousand and One Nights", a collection of South Asian and Middle Eastern folk tales compiled during the Islamic Golden Age. It was anthologised over hundreds of years by a variety of scholars, authors, and translators across Asia and North Africa, with the stories having roots in medieval Persian, Arabic, Mesopotamian, Jewish, Indian, and Egyptian folklore. Fantastically illustrated by Caspar Emerson and Leon D'emo, this classic collection is ideal for bedtime reading material and is not to be missed by lovers and collectors of folklore. Caspar Hjalmar Emerson, Jr. (1878 - 1948) was a Norwegian-born American artist and illustrator. The stories include: "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp", "The Enchanted Horse", "The Story of the Merchant and the Genius", "The Little Hunchback", "Story of the Blind Baba-Abdalla", "The Story of Ali Cogia, Merchant of Bagdad", "The Story of the Vizir who was Punished", "The Story of the Husband and the Parrot", "The Story of King Shahriar and Sheherazade", and many more. Pook Press celebrates the great 'Golden Age of Illustration' in children's literature - a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration.
