This book was written to answer just that question, and to serve as a starting point with those inflicted with Lyme and/or its coinfections such as Babesia, and Bartonella. It provides answers regarding Lyme disease and possible coinfections, from which you can then investigate further the issues that are impacting you. It is also a book for family, friends, and caregivers, providing a perspective of what the person they care for is going through, and to help them understand what it is all about. Each chapter highlights a different and common question a patient, their family, friends, or caregivers might ask after someone becomes ill with Lyme & Co. The book works from a background of the disease and coinfections; through transmission, symptoms, testing, and potential treatment; to what becomes important to eat; what it can feel like to live with Lyme & Co.; and, why energy management is important. A frequently asked questions list, and a listing of resources is also included. It is hoped that after reading this book, your friends, family, and caregivers, can start their Lyme journey with you. Lyme & Co. will change you, and them, and it can be a very long journey if not treated early.

Book excerpt: I know what it feels like to be exhausted, afraid and sad because the Mother I knew was slipping away, and I didn't have the energy or knowledge to make it better. This Alzheimer's Caregivers book is short and simple. It covers the emotions, daily living problems and the big decisions about placing them in a facility. It is for all of you pretending they "aren't that bad" while quality time slips away. Denial hurts everyone. There are ideas to cope with anger, bathing and wandering. But always remember no one is promised forever, we all get one day at a time. Celia Koudele is passionate about this disease. She wants to help others learn about it, recognize it, and deal with it. Her mother, grandmother, and an aunt all died from Alzheimer's. It is in her past, present, and probably her future. She shares your journey in many ways. "Celia, in her book, "The Little Book for Alzheimer's Caregivers," provides hands on, first person knowledge for anyone dealing with a person with Alzheimer's disease. Personally the skills she possesses as a caregiver herself, as well as her many years as Family Care Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association Central and Western Kansas, assisting families, friends, and caregivers provides great knowledge to make things better. The information she provides is down to earth, common sense tactics. This is an easy to read, easy to understand approach for anyone dealing with Alzheimer's disease caregiving." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is hope for recovery from Lyme disease and other chronic illnesses In Starving to Heal in Siberia, Dr. Michelle Slater takes us on her journey from her bed, where she was sidelined much of the time, to Siberia, where she was cured of the debilitating effects of advanced Lyme disease. After a years-long struggle with extreme chronic fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, and other mysterious symptoms that ultimately prevented her from teaching and doing simple tasks like reading and driving, Michelle began considering assisted suicide. She had tried every known treatment, from aggressive allopathic methods to holistic remedies, without success. In a last-ditch effort to save her life, she found a radical alternative treatment offered by the world’s leading expert on dry fasting and traveled to Siberia to give it a chance. Starving to Heal in Siberia is both a moving and insightful memoir of recovery from devastating chronic illness and a practical guide to the science and psychology behind safely dry fasting. If you are curious about intermittent fasting and the research on dry fasting, this book offers compelling and useful information. If you are a doctor who has had to tell your patients to adjust to the chronic symptoms of an autoimmune disorder that didn’t dissipate under your best care, this book offers new hope. And if you struggle with chronic illness or love someone who does, this book is an antidote to despair. Michelle’s thoughtful account of her wellness journey provides similarly afflicted readers with the tools and encouragement to begin their own.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kinship care – the care of children by grandparents, other relatives or friends – is a major part of foster care, yet there are distinct issues that arise in care involving family rather than 'stranger' foster carers. This book takes an in-depth look at what goes on 'inside' kinship care. It explores the dynamics and relationships between family members that are involved in kinship care, including mothers, grandparents, siblings and the wider family. Chapters also discuss issues such as safeguarding, assessment, therapy, encouraging permanence, placement breakdown, support groups, and cultural issues. The final part of the book looks at kinship care from an international perspective, with examples from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the United States. Drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives and with contributions from different branches of kinship care, this book provides an invaluable overview of the issues involved and how to provide effective support. It will be essential reading for all those working in the kinship care field, including social workers, therapists, counsellors, psychologists and family lawyers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Norman Rich (1921-2020) was an internationally recognized scholar of European history who taught at Brown University and Michigan State University, among other places. Professor Rich’s life and career were unorthodox. He came from a working-class background in Cleveland, Ohio, but even as a child he traveled widely and was fluent in several languages thanks to the influence of his mother, who emigrated from Germany to North America in 1908. As a teenager, Norman was briefly educated in Switzerland and personally witnessed many of the events that informed World War II, including Mussolini’s declaration of the Second Roman Empire, the eruption of the Spanish Civil War, and the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Norman was a committed pacifist and became a conscientious objector during World War II, living in a labor camp in the high desert of California. After the war, he earned his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley, and then worked for five years as part of the American team studying and translating the mass of German Foreign Office records captured by the Allies at the end of the War. He subsequently held research fellowships at Princeton and Oxford. His meticulous research and command of original sources was such that his multi-volume works on German diplomacy in the years preceding World War I, Adolph Hitler’s purposes in instigating and prosecuting World War II, and 19th and 20th century diplomatic history became standards in their field. Yet Norman had many dimensions beyond that of an historian; other than his family, his first interests were music, art and architecture. Norman and his wife Joan Hitchcock Rich—known to her friends as Ning— were civic activists in Providence and longtime residents of Lyme, Connecticut. Hundreds, if not thousands, of students and friends were profoundly influenced and benefited by the Riches’ mentoring and friendship.
