Or perhaps equal to that of morning dew rose petals that falls in the same water crystal. As is the legend of the Rose White, which is planted in the garden of the soul that is felt in the heart in love; and to keep on loving since love grows and never dies. This is simply me, the poet of love and spreading in each note the perfume of love. This legend of love in poetry is the mouth of the soul that speaks as in the “The Legend of the White Rose.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Munich 1942-43, handbills appeared-some in mailboxes-some left secretly on parked cars-others still, surfaced in city phone booths. The words condemned Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime and called Germans to passive resistance. The message, penned and distributed by a handful of student-soldiers and other youthful associates who had come of age during the twelve-year catastrophe of the Third Reich, hoped to stir the conscience of a nation. The regime had tempted them with promises of power and prosperity. In time, the youths made their way through a labyrinth of propaganda, confusion, and personal conflict, arriving at the threshold of their own inner convictions-a passage bringing them to a destination called the White Rose. Among the recipients of the Leaflets of the White Rose were teachers the group hoped would spread the call to resistance. A university professor accepted their challenge. Sixty years later, an American teacher felt compelled to learn and follow the story, not knowing when she began, that it would lead her to the spirit of the White Rose that lives yet today. Along with three fellow educators, Ruth traveled to Germany to dialogue with schools now named for members of the White Rose. On a quiet country lane or a busy city street, teachers toil daily, urging students to think critically, stay informed, and develop skills that will nurture and renew the freedoms the White Rose could only imagine. Journey to the White Rose in Germany is an invitation to encounter a past that inspires the present and the future. Ruth Bernadette Melon recently celebrated more than three decades as a New Jersey middle school educator. During her tenure, she taught Humanities, World Cultures, and writing. Now enjoying the "writing life," she considers herself a life-long learner. Having received a BA in English from Rutgers University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goucher College in Maryland, she is currently a candidate for a D.Litt degree with a concentration in writing. Ruth was named a 2003 Morris County Teacher Fellow by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. Ruth lives with her husband Ira in New Jersey and enjoys the frequent company of her children and the larger family circle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Among the wealth of good Holocaust literature available, Freedman's volume stands out for its focus and concision, effectively placing the White Rose in its historical context, telling the story of Nazi Germany without losing the focus on the White Rose, and doing so in just over 100 pages." (Kirkus starred review) In his signature eloquent prose, backed up by thorough research, Newbery medalist and nonfiction master Russell Freedman tells the story of Austrian-born Hans Scholl and his sister Sophie. They belonged to Hitler Youth as young children, but began to doubt the Nazi regime. As older students, the Scholls and a few friends formed the White Rose, a campaign of active resistance to Hitler and the Nazis. Risking imprisonment or even execution, the White Rose members distributed leaflets urging Germans to defy the Nazi government. Their belief that freedom was worth dying for will inspire young readers to stand up for what they believe in. Archival photographs and prints, source notes, bibliography, index. A Sibert Honor Book

Book excerpt: There were two women in Zhenbao's life: one he called his white rose, the other his red rose. One was a spotless wife, the other a passionate mistress. Isn't that just how the average man describe a chaste widow's devotion to her husband's memory - as spotless, and passionate too? Maybe every man has had two such women - at least two. Marry a red rose and eventually she'll be a mosquito-blood streak smeared on the wall, while the white one is "moonlight in front of my bed." Marry a white rose, and before long she'll be a grain of sticky rice that's gotten stuck to your clothes; the red one, by then, is a scarlet beauty mark just over your heart. In Eileen Chang's eloquent and evocative novella, Zhenbao is a devoted son, a diligent worker, and guarded in love. But when he meets a friend's spoilt, spirited, desirable wife, he cannot resist her charms, or keep their relationship under his control. As he succumbs to passions and resentments, Red Rose, White Rose is both sensual and restrained.

Book excerpt: 'Though we have come a long way this crippling, debilitating, often terminal illness is still shockingly misunderstood. This is my story that you have asked me to tell. Those who suffer from depression will understand and those who don't will hopefully learn how to.' This is the book that Denise Welch wished for as she found herself exhausted and defeated after yet another visit from The Unwelcome Visitor - the name she gives to the episodes of clinical depression she has suffered from over the past 30 years. For so many, understanding their mental health is a leap into the unknown, and they are left grappling with the physical and emotional fallout without any guidance or someone to tell them 'you're not alone and you can live a happy and successful life alongside your illness'. Within these pages Denise reveals her ongoing journey from breakdowns to breakthroughs and through self-destruction to self-acceptance. Typically candid, Denise brings her trademark humour and honesty to a conversation that we urgently need to have, and shows readers it is brave and courageous to be open and vulnerable, and you too can take back control.
