Stan whipped around to see his beautiful wife Francine, wrapped in the arms of another man, and he couldn't believe who it was! ?Richard?? Stan exclaimed, his jaw dropping. His best friend, the lead detective on all the high profile cases, including their latest case. Here he was standing with his wife, while Stan only thought they separated temporarily. He never in a million years thought his only male friend and confidant would swoop down and impregnate his wife! So many feelings raged through Stan right now. ?Stan let?s go into the living room and talk.? He gave himself a pep talk, not to walk out there and kill the both of them. His mind flashed to the girl he killed for no reason a few months ago. She didn't deserve to die. He splashed his face with water, as if to wash away the bad thoughts and walked into what used to be his living room. Immediately, he thought he was going to be sick. There were two couches and two love seats in the large living room. On one of the love seats, Richard was sitting, and Francine was on his lap. One of his hands were on her thigh, getting a little too high, and the other was rubbing her back. He swore that if he stood there any longer, he would receive a crash course in how the baby got inside of her. ?When was the last time that we snuggled like that? Have we ever both sat on the loveseat together?? Stan thought. With their careers, they were lucky to meet for dinner once a week. As for their bedroom, it was used for sleeping and changing their clothes.

Book excerpt: Stan stood there, frozen in time, looking down at this woman who was so familiar, yet so much a stranger. He didn't even know her name, yet he was the last person that she had seen as she took her last breath on this earth. This woman was washed up on the San Diego harbor, just this morning. He had dreams of killing her last night, then this morning, his boss had called him and told him to come quickly to the station. His boss informed him that a body had washed up on the San Diego harbor, and she was the cousin of his wife. He hurried into work, worried that his secret had been found out. The whole way to work, his hands were sweating, in fact he was a sweaty mess by the time he opened up the doors to his office. Since he was a top, high profile medical examiner, he had the biggest office in the entire building. This is because his office also consisted of two metal slabs where the dead bodies were placed to be examined, and many cabinets for all of his equipment that he needed. There were two swinging doors that separated his work area, where the bodies were placed, and his desk area. The entire time he was driving, and while walking into the building, his mind was trying to wrap around what had happened. 'It was just a dream.' He kept saying over and over to himself. Then, when he walked into his office, and saw the once beautiful brunette laying on that metal slab. She was naked, with a thin white sheet covering her body. Her eyes had broken blood vessels, which was a tell-tale sign that she had been strangled. He couldn't catch his breath.

Book excerpt: ?I should get going before all my friends and family send a search party down here.? He laughed. ?Did you forget you told me you?re here alone?? He said with a huge smile on his face. He quickly pulled the back of her bikini top, and like that, her perfect, round, firm breasts popped out. They were about the size of grapefruits. ?Hey!? she tried to yell, but he pulled her back in to kiss her to shut her up. She tried to push him away, but he easily took both of her hands and pinned them behind her back with the ease of one hand. ?No, Stop, Please!!? she began whining and begging. He just started laughing. He wasn't sure why. He couldn't stop. From then, things get blurry in his mind. Then he comes back into focus, and her eyes are staring up at him. He knows that look, she?s dead. Why is he straddling her body, with her bikini top wrapped around her neck? Her eyes had the tell-tale sign of strangulation. The blood vessels had popped. She spits up blood, lots of it. He actually pulled the strings on the bikini so hard, that she started bleeding there too! Suddenly, he jolts awake. He doesn't remember much of the dream until he rubs his face, to rub the sleep away, and he feels his hands wet. He looks down, and sees that his hands have blood on them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eclectic British author Alan Moore (b. 1953) is one of the most acclaimed and controversial comics writers to emerge since the late 1970s. He has produced a large number of well-regarded comic books and graphic novels while also making occasional forays into music, poetry, performance, and prose. In Alan Moore: Comics as Performance, Fiction as Scalpel, Annalisa Di Liddo argues that Moore employs the comics form to dissect the literary canon, the tradition of comics, contemporary society, and our understanding of history. The book considers Moore's narrative strategies and pinpoints the main thematic threads in his works: the subversion of genre and pulp fiction, the interrogation of superhero tropes, the manipulation of space and time, the uses of magic and mythology, the instability of gender and ethnic identity, and the accumulation of imagery to create satire that comments on politics and art history. Examining Moore's use of comics to scrutinize contemporary culture, Di Liddo analyzes his best-known works-- Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, From Hell, Promethea, and Lost Girls . The study also highlights Moore's lesser-known output, such as Halo Jones, Skizz, and Big Numbers, and his prose novel Voice of the Fire. Alan Moore: Comics as Performance, Fiction as Scalpel reveals Moore to be one of the most significant and distinctly postmodern comics creators of the last quarter-century.

Book excerpt: “Rother is the next Ann Rule.” —Gregg Olsen Chelsea King was a popular high school senior, an outstanding achiever determined to make a difference. Fourteen-year-old Amber Dubois loved books and poured her heart into the animals she cared for. Treasured by all who knew them, both girls disappeared in San Diego County, just eight miles and one year apart. The families’ anguish galvanized the community and captivated the media. A desperate search led authorities to John Albert Gardner, a brutal predator, convicted sex offender hiding in plain sight—and a complex man whose own mother, a psychiatric nursing professional, failed to see the signs of trouble. Ultimately, Gardner shared a prison unit with Charles Manson. In 2010, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Chelsea's Law: anyone convicted of certain sex offenses against a child in California would get life in prison without parole. Based on Pulitzer-nominated author Caitlin Rother’s exclusive access, Lost Girls is an incisive, heartbreaking true-life thriller that strikes at our deepest fears. “A a cautionary tale and a horror story, done superbly.” —Los Angeles Times “A terrifying portrait of a man who was sweet and cuddly one day and a crazed killer the next.” —San Diego Reader “Gripping . . . chilling . . . a must-read.” —Sue Russell “Boldly dissects how a boy with psychological problems formed into a man indifferent to his monstrous acts.” —Katherine Ramsland “Caitlin Rother stirs up the lethal stew of family dysfunction, mental illness, substance abuse and deadly psychopathology. . . . Frank and riveting.” —Diane Fanning Includes dramatic photos

Book excerpt: The note was threatening enough--but its link to two cold cases and a sinister unseen presence sends P.I. Madison Kelly on a frantic search for the truth. Madison Kelly, a San Diego private investigator, arrives home to a note stabbed to her front door: Stop investigating me, or I will hunt you down and kill you. The only problem? Madison hasn't been investigating anyone--she's been taking time off to figure out what to do with her life. But how does she prove a negative? The only way to remove the threat is to do exactly what "Anonymous", the note writer, is telling her not to do: investigate to see who left it. Could this have something to do with the true crime podcast she's been tweeting about, and the missing girls? The girls went missing, two years apart, after a night at the clubs in San Diego's famed Gaslamp Quarter, and Madison had been probing the internet for clues. She discovers that someone has been one step ahead of her, monitoring her tweets to prevent her from getting too close. Soon Madison's investigation brings up more questions than answers: are the disappearances connected? Are the girls dead or did they just walk away from their lives? And who is Anonymous, the person who will stop at nothing to keep Madison from learning the truth? As she closes in, so does Anonymous. Set against a backdrop of surfer culture and coffee houses of San Diego, Anonymous follows Madison as she confronts the reality of the girls' disappearance in a terrifying climax where the hunter becomes the hunted--and Madison is running for her life.
