Book excerpt: "After careful study of all sources for two years, the authors are of the opinion that [their Kennamer] forefathers were of High Dutch descent and lived in Holland near where that State borders with present-day Germany. ... They came to this country before the Revolutionary War and settled in the Carolinas."--Page 13. Some later went to Alabama. "Hans Kennamer, with a large family, and his eldest son, Jacob, who was married, came to the Cove and settled among the Indians in 1798, or not later than 1805. This place is now know as Kennamer Cove. ... The records of Madison County, Alabama, show that Samuel, Stephen and Jacob Kennamer bought land in that county in 1809. ... It is a well-known fact that the sons of Hans Kennamer settled ... in the western part of Jackson County, the eastern part of Madison County, and the northern part of Marshall County. David and Abram resided in Madison County, while John Kennamer lived at the place wher Paint Rock, Alabama, now is. ... Hans Kennamer died and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery, in Kennamer Cove, Alabama."--Page 14-15. Nothing is know of his wife. Son Jacob Kennemer (ca. 1776-1856) " ... moved from Alabama to Giles County, Tennessee where he acquired ... land of Sugar Creek. ... He was married twice, but the names of his wives could not be ascertained. He was buried on Anderson Creek, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, near Foster's Mill."--P. 17-18. Also includes Kennamer, Kennemore, Canamore, Kennemur, Kennemer, Kenimer families of Georgia. Descendants and relatives lived in Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Georgia and elsewhere

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children's spiritual development is currently a hot topic in Christian circles, as well as in other fields and disciplines such as educational psychology, medicine, developmental psychology, education, and sociology. The key question for Christian scholars and educators is How do Christian beliefs and practices uniquely interrelate with children's spirituality? In 2003 and again in 2006, a national conference entitled Children's Spirituality Conference: Christian Perspectives examined children's spirituality from a distinctly Christian standpoint. This book is a collection of the best materials from the 2006 conference. The first half of the book addresses definitional, historical, and theological concerns related to spiritual development in children. The second half explores best practices for fostering spiritual growth among our children--in our homes, families, churches, Christian schools, and among special populations of children--from a wide spectrum of Christian scholars and practitioners. The volume closes with John Westerhoff's moving keynote address and Catherine Stonehouse and Scottie May's eloquent, culminating plenary address. Nurturing Children's Spirituality provides a rich cross section of the current research and writing by Christian scholars on children's spirituality. Contributors: Holly Catterton Allen, Michael J. Book excerpt: A call for the church, the whole church, to enter into a serious conversation about the spiritual nourishment of our children Conversations about children and faith draw us close to the heart of God, among the people of God, these talks are justifiably nuanced and passionate. The authors of "Along the Way" lead everyone in the church, parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, ministers, and leaders, in a careful yet understandable dialogue about nurturing children spiritually. Along the way, we discover that the individuality of each child and the distinctiveness of their context call us to see each child's walk with God as a unique journey of discovery. We also learn that sharing these paths with children changes and bless us at least as much as it does them.
