In this much-anticipated autobiography, Liza talks about her work, her loves and the real-life dramas that have shaped her as a woman and an actress. The book charts her early life in England and follows her to Australia, where her beloved father played a key role in helping to set up the country's fledgling television industry. As a young actress, Liza was cast in the long-running children’s drama series, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. She later returned to England, where she appeared in a host of classic TV series, including Pig In The Middle, The Brothers, Bergerac, Dr Who and Midsomer Murders. Liza talks about her working relationship with Alan Ayckbourn and explains how a planned move to America failed to materialise. Find out how Liza got together with her first husband, actor Colin Baker on the set of The Brothers, why her marriage to ‘70s rocker Alvin Stardust failed and how she eventually found true love with producer David Cobham. Liza also reveals the truth about her alleged affair with Bergerac star John Nettles, and reveals how she successfully sued a tabloid newspaper over the allegations. She describes her courageous battle against breast cancer and reveals how beating the disease has given her a new perspective on life. Liza explains why animals continue to play an important part in her life and recounts some hilarious stories about the assortment of creatures that have featured in her life. A warts and all account from one of Britain’s most popular actresses, Working With Children And Animals will have you laughing and crying in equal measure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s highly industrialized and technologically controlled global food systems dominate our lives, shaping our access and attitudes towards food and deeply influencing and defining our identities. At the same time, these food systems are profoundly and destructively impacting the health of the environment and threatening all of us, human and nonhuman, who must subsist in ecological conditions of increasing fragility and scarcity. This collection examines and exposes the myriad ways that the food systems, driven by global commodity capitalism and its imperative of growth at any cost, increasingly controls us and conforms us to our roles as consumers and producers. This collection covers a range of topics from the excess of consumers in the post-industrial world and the often unacknowledged yet intrinsic connection of their consumption to the growing ecological and health crises in developing nations, to topics of surveillance and control of human and nonhuman bodies through food, to the deep linkages of cultural values and norms toward food to the myriad crises we face on a global scale.

This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World was my Lobster tells the story of George Cole's more than 70 years in the acting profession that began with a walk-on part at the age of 14 in the stage musical The White Horse Inn in 1939, and continues today having included such roles as David Bliss in the radio and television versions of A Life of Bliss, Flash Harry in the St. Trinian's films, and Arthur Daley in television's Minder.Adopted when he was only 10 days old, George Cole grew up in south London in the 1920s. On the day he left school he saw a newspaper advertisement seeking a small boy to join the cast of The White Horse Inn and was selected the following day. A year later, he found himself in the West End play Cottage to Let playing a cheeky wartime evacuee. Here he met legendary comic actor Alastair Sim who, with his wife, took him as an evacuee in their country house and coached him in the finer skills of acting. A flurry of films and theatre performances in the late 1940s, after his RAF service, culminated in a memorable role as a young Ebenezer Scrooge in the classic 1951 film Scrooge alongside Sim. Henry V, Cleopatra (with Elizabeth Taylor), Don't Forget to Write, Blott on the Landscape, Henry Root, and Dad are among other titles for which he is well known. But it was in 1979 that he landed the role that would elevate him to international recognition when he was offered the role of Arthur Daley in Thames Television's new series Minder alongside Dennis Waterman. In The World was my Lobster, a title taken from a classic line in a Minder episode, George Cole talks candidly, humorously and sensitively about his adoption, his life, his roles and many of the people he has worked with throughout his long career.
