Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise by Sun Tzu, a high-ranking military general, strategist and tactician. The text is composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare. It is commonly thought of as a definitive work on military strategy and tactics. For the last two thousand years it remained the most important military treatise in Asia, where even the common people knew it by name. It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond. The book was first translated into the French language in 1772 by French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot and a partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905. However, the most popular (and accurate) English language translation was completed by Lionel Giles in 1910. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Douglas MacArthur and leaders of Imperial Japan have drawn inspiration from the work. This edition has 380 footnotes, an introduction, and brief biographies on the 11 main commentators on Sun Tzu's work. This book is limited to 1,000 copies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three most fundamental works on the nature of war are Sun Tzu's "The Art of War," Machiavelli's "The Prince," and Clausewitz's "On War." This collection is the ultimate guide to military strategy for strategic thinkers, generals, and heads of state. "The Art of War" is an ancient Chinese military treatise by Sun Tzu, a high-ranking military general, strategist and tactician. It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond. "The Prince" examines the reasons that Kings, Emperors, Dukes and governments have thrived or crumbled, while suggesting a set of principles that any leader would find difficult to follow, but impossible to ignore. "On War" is a book on military strategy by Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz, written mostly after the Napoleonic wars. It is one of the most important treatises on political-military analysis and strategy ever written, and remains both controversial and an influence on strategic thinking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On War is a book on military strategy by Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz, written mostly after the Napoleonic wars, between 1816 and 1830, and published posthumously in 1832. On War is one of the most important treatises on political-military analysis and strategy ever written, and remains both controversial and an influence on strategic thinking. Clausewitz was among those intrigued by the manner in which the leaders of the French Revolution, especially Napoleon, had changed the conduct of war through their ability to motivate the populace and to gain access to the full resources of the state; thus unleashing war on a greater scale than had previously been seen in Europe. Clausewitz was well educated and had strong interests in art, history, science, and education. He was a professional soldier who spent a considerable part of his life fighting against Napoleon. The insights he gained from his political and military experiences, combined with a solid grasp of European history, allowed Clausewitz to write a definitive book on military strategy. This book contains all three volumes of On War, and includes an introduction, a biography, and annotations. This edition is limited to 1,000 copies.

Book excerpt: A new illustrated edition of Sun Tzu's classic ancient Chinese meditation on military strategy and human psychology, with a new commentary that highlight its continued relevance for modern readers. Poetic and immensely readable, The Art of War was written 2,500 years ago and the military manual is still relevant today. A fascinating historical document that sheds light on ancient warfare, it is also a profound meditation on human psychology, interrogating the subjects of leadership, self-discipline and self-awareness. This new edition of the classic work is specially designed for modern readers. It includes an insightful introduction to the historical and philosophical context, and is accompanied by explanation and analysis of how Sun Tzu's lessons have been applied in some of the world's most famous battles. Renowned strategists from Field Marshal Montgomery to General Schwarzkopf have cited the book as an inspiration. The ancient text, attributed to Sun Tzu, is divided into 13 chapters that provide a logical and strategic approach to conflict and competition. Each focuses on a different aspect of warfare, including the importance of planning, managing your forces, decision-making, knowing your strengths and weaknesses, the art of deception and understanding the power of information. This edition, featuring more than 28 evocative photographs, offers a new perspective on a classic work and enables new generations to discover The Art of War and find new applications for the wisdom of Sun Tzu.
