Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many emotions that need to be expressed for true healing to begin. Starting is the hard part. Inside this journal, I began the sentences for you. Completing them is your first step to healing. These particular sentences were created to help you to tap into those emotions you are afraid to share with others for fear of rejection. The pain of guilt, shame, fear, anger, anxiety, and other emotions you've been afraid to confront, are not yours to hold onto. We are a visual people. You have to see your pain to heal from it. As the former wife of John Allen Muhammad, the convicted and now executed, DC Sniper, I've felt no one could handle my emotions. I knew I had to get them outside of myself to heal. I began journaling and found more emotions I didn't realize existed. I couldn't tell anyone because I felt ashamed, guilty, and thought no one would believe me anyway. Writing them down gave me the opportunity to truly focus on my pain and how these emotions were affecting my everyday living. As I continued to write, without worrying about punctuation or how I would be accepted for what I was saying, my heart was no longer heavy. The more sentences I completed, the better I felt on a daily basis. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing! I'm so thankful to God for giving me the inspiration and guidance to share this journaling process with you. I hope and pray you will use it as a tool to help in your healing process. We all need to confront our emotional injuries we suffer on a daily basis. It is a long journey, however, it is worth the trip. A comprehensive safety plan, to escape your abusive relationship along with resources for victims/survivors are included.

Book excerpt: Most survivors of childhood sexual abuse want to believe that when the abuse stops it all stops. That's rarely the case. Most survivors harbor the secret for so long they don't realize where the behaviors, beliefs, thoughts, triggers, and emotions came from. Even if survivors told and weren't believed, it causes retraumatization and adds to the lifetime of issues, if those issues go unhealed. Most people want to think recovering and healing from sexual abuse is done in a therapists' office. For me, that wasn't true. I did most of my recovering on my own through journaling. This journal is designed with the survivor in mind. Plus, the idea that recovery and healing are possible in the comfort of your safe space. This journal is for any survivor of childhood sexual abuse... even those who aren't ready to tell anyone, can't find therapy or just want more recovery options. I worked through these prompts myself. These 34 journal prompts help bring the unconscious mind forward so true healing can take place. I know and understand how hard writing, acknowledging and working through the abuse is, but it is possible with one step. Taking the first step is everything. This is one of those first steps.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for cancer survivors: those in treatment and those who have completed treatment and are wondering what to do next. Both would benefit from a support group that is grounded in healing themes, mindful meditations, and community. Writing and Healing: A Mindful Guide for Cancer Survivors (with accompanying CD) serves as a guide for support groups in using expressive writing as a therapeutic experience. The sessions in the book help to release stress and encourage positive feelings, offering a way to support treatment and move forward after treatment. The book is also full of stories, drawings, and vignettes, inspiring survivors to explore their own healing path. Within the book is a step-by-step guide enabling others (such as nurses, social workers, psychologists, or ministers) to lead these groups. This includes ways to gather the creative materials and instructions on how to lead the opening, closing and exercises of the twelve sessions. Alternatively, cancer survivors may prefer to gather on their own and take turns leading the group. For those who want to use the book on their own, Writing and Healing also includes a CD of the meditations and suggestions for how to follow the exercises on one’s own. The twelve sessions in this book are full of cleansing and hope, and the sort of writing, sharing, and listening which occurs is a strengthening act.

Book excerpt: The Trauma Story is at the heart of the medical and mental health care of persons who have survived violence. Over the past 30 years the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma (HPRT) has cared for over 10,000 sufferers of extreme violence. HPRT through its scientific research has discovered the four major dimensions of the Trauma Story: 1) The "brutal" facts. 2) Cultural meaning of trauma. 3) Revelation. 4) Listener-Storyteller relationship that exist in all trauma narratives. The importance of the Trauma Story as an element of "self-healing" has also been revealed. The TSAT is a new journal approach for eliciting the trauma story and building on the survivor's resiliency. The TSAT allows the listener to enter into an empathic dialog and discover their implications of their story for healing. This approach emerged from the new book Healing Invisible Wounds: Path to Hope and Recovery in a Violent World. The TSAT can be used by all health care and mental health practitioners.
