Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written to fill a need, when I started teaching script writing at Santa Monica College and my students asked me to name a book on the subject I could recommend. After voluminous reading, I could find nothing which was completely satisfactory. Most of it seemed to have been written by people who had never written professionally for films and/or television, and thus had no first-hand knowledge of it from personal experience. The books were written from hearsay and observation, like trying to learn how to swim by standing at the edge of a pool and watching others do it, without ever getting into the water yourself. Or trying to fly by flapping your arms like a bird. It doesn't work. They have no hands-on (or wings-on) concept of how commercially produceable scripts are actually put together, and then marketed; and are of no real practical help to the beginning writer, or anyone else who's interested. Only a swimmer, or a bird, or a writer who has made his living at it, really knows how his special trick is done and can pass it on to others. And so here it is. Enjoy while you learn. Because if writing isn't fun, it's no way to make a living. Rob banks instead (but try not to get caught).

Book excerpt: ‘I don’t like killing, but I’m good at it. Murder isn’t so bad from a distance, just shapes popping up in my scope. Close-up work though – a garrotte around a target’s neck or a knife in their heart – it’s not for me. Too much empathy, that’s my problem. Usually. But not today. Today is different . . . ‘ The year is 1955 and something is very wrong with the world. It is fourteen years since Churchill died and the Second World War ended. In occupied Europe, Britain fights a cold war against a nuclear-armed Nazi Germany. In Berlin the Gestapo is on the trail of a beautiful young resistance fighter, and the head of the SS is plotting to dispose of an ailing Adolf Hitler and restart the war against Britain and her empire. Meanwhile, in a secret bunker hidden deep beneath the German countryside, scientists are experimenting with a force far beyond their understanding. Into this arena steps a nameless British assassin, on the run from a sinister cabal within his own government, and planning a private war against the Nazis. And now the fate of the world rests on a single kill in the morning . . .

Book excerpt: What separates great novels and blockbuster movies from the rest? Just one thing: Story. Once you know the secrets of crafting great stories, you've got it made... Writing a great story should be the aim of every author and screenwriter. Once you've utilised the story-telling secrets contained in Million Dollar Story, you'll be able to repeat it over and over again - just like other super-successful storytellers, such as J.K. Rowling, Dan Brown, George R. R. Martin, Gillian Flynn, James Patterson, and Stephen King. Readers, publishers, and studio heads don't care how accomplished a writer you are. The only question they want answered is, "How good is the story?" When a novel is made into a movie or TV adaptation, the studios aren't paying for great prose, dazzling dialogue, or scintillating syntax - they only want the story. Reviews of Previous Editions "I loved this book, I really did. I found it refreshing, full of no-nonsense honest advice that tells it like it is, a book in which the author likens the old pulp fiction books to modern Kindle short novels." Sheryl, Amazon.co.uk "This is the second book of Jim Driver's I've read. A quick read, I went through this book during one session on the treadmill at the YMCA. I've also read Jim Driver's How to Write a Novel The Easy Way which was also good, short, and to the point. Each book inspired me to write better and faster." Weaver of Words, Amazon.com Filled with story examples from blockbuster novels, movies and TV, comprehensive checklists, and practical hands-on help, How To Write The Million Dollar Story gives you all the skills you need to make you an expert storyteller. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How hedge funds make money by taking it from the rest of us?and how you can join them! Top hedge fund managers make more than Oprah, Rupert Murdoch, and A-Rod combined?but they aren't running news and entertainment empires or playing baseball for the New York Yankees. Aren't you curious about how these hedge fund dudes make so much doing who knows what? You may even wonder if you can get there, too. After all, this is America! This book gives you the answers in a twelve-step guide to accumulating vast riches the way hedge fund managers do?by playing trillion-dollar poker with a marked deck. Through each easy step, you'll learn the sleight of hand and disregard for basic morality you'll need to move from making tens of dollars an hour to millions an hour! Along the way, you'll also question whether these hedge fund moguls make markets work better?as they and their apologists insist?or cause instability, siphon off capital, and destroy value without adding so much as a single widget to the economy. Takes a fascinating tour of the wild side of fantasy finance to explain just how hedge fund managers make so much money?and whether or not the million-an-hour crowd produces anything positive for society and the economy Teaches you hedge fund secrets that make it possible to pull down astounding sums in the space of minutes?from rigging your bets to milking millions in special tax breaks?if you're willing to bankrupt your morality for the cash Counters many of the most common arguments about why speculating in financial markets is somehow "worth more" than creating entertainment, electronics, or consumer goods that consumers want Written by Les Leopold, the popular AlterNet writer and author of The Looting of America
