Book excerpt: Y ou could say man into wolf and wolf into man got blasted into existence. You could also say the Tasmanian Aborigines and the Tasmanian Wolf got blasted out of existence. It’s called extinction and it lasts forever and, when Ihe the wolfman did the sums of early Tasmania, it all added up. This was except for one thing… the existence of the truly last Thylacine Wolf hiding out somewhere life-giving and life-preserving from the ever-hunters and the always-killers. This made it all the more urgent for Ihe to find the great beast first, in order to brace up its unique animal-kind courage before they tracked it down. They are always tracking it down. But Ihe was Man and also Wolf, as one, and he was on the scent too… that for every eye done to extinction was a human hunter’s eye and for every done-in eye tooth was a human hunter’s tooth. And for flesh, what better than human flesh? But first, there was his famous arch-enemy to hunt down and run from, both. It was bad enough when he planted his foot in the wrong place and the Army’s report about it concluding: ‘In any hairy situations, this will undoubtedly change how he gets a lot of looks’. But what would the Army know about the trauma that transmogrifies? It’s always been nits or nothing with him, anyhow. It’s just that Ihe the wolfman didn’t want to end up like the presumed last Tasmanian Wolf hanging from a rafter. That great shame.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When my children were small and my husband in college, I continued to recreate the stories my parents told me as a child about animals having personalities and their teaching abilities. I used the stories to teach my children moral principles through fables. They knew if they went to bed by 8:00 p.m., they would get another chapter of some favorite pretend stories, spun out night after night, chapter by chapter. Many of these stories led to daytime adventures as the kids lifted up flat rocks in search of Harvey Rabbit's magic hole with the candy factory. They made horn toads into pets and few a mouse in box fitted with a running wheel. In 1989, I decided to write down some of those favorite stories to give my now grown children as a Christmas present. My artist sister illustrated these stories for me. The compilation of stories has been sitting in my cedar chest for 30 years, until recently, when I had them re-printed for my now growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. God bless each and every child out there, that they may come to know in their head and heart that we are all God's angels placed here on earth with extraordinary abilities in order to love and bless each other's lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the one and only Sandra Boynton comes the tuneful, toe-tapping hardcover Philadelphia Chickens. Celebrating its 21st anniversary, this catchy and quirky musical-in-a-book has been completely redrawn and redesigned for the next generation of readers, singers, and musicians. * Grammy nominated! * #1 New York Times bestseller! * A platinum album with over 1 million copies sold! * Plus a book and CD! What an event! What a show! Here is a full-color songbook of 17 ½ illustrated story-poems, and a full-length, fully orchestrated CD of original songs performed by such luminaries as Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline, Meryl Streep, The Bacon Brothers, and Laura Linney, who pleads “Please, Can I Keep It?—it followed me home. / What exactly it is / I don’t know.” Also joining in are Eric Stoltz, Scott Bakula, and two Boyntons, including daughter Caitlin McEwan, who performs a piece that every little listener will relate to—a love song to the chocolate chip cookies that are just out of reach. With the collaboration of composer Michael Ford, Philadelphia Chickens is that rarest of kids’ record collections—one whose inimitable lyrics and music make it as irresistible to parents as it is to their children. Well, I’m coming from Connecticut on I-95, heading toward the sunset on the East River Drive to the pretty little city on the Delaware— the Philadelphia Chickens are sure to be there.
