Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives you a comprehensive overview of key optimization tools that can be used to design radar waveforms and adaptive signal processing strategies under practical constraints -- strategies such as power method-like iterations, coordinate descent, and majorization-minimization – that help you to meet the more and more stressing sensing system requirements. The book walks you through how radar waveform synthesis is obtained as the solution to a constrained optimization problem such as finite energy, unimodularity (or being constant-modulus), and finite or discrete-phase (potentially binary) alphabet, which are dictated by the practical limitations of the real systems. Several approaches in each of these broad frameworks are detailed and various applications of these optimization techniques are described. Focusing on a holistic approach rather than a problem-specific approach, the book shows you what you need to effectively formulate waveform design and understand the flexibility of the framework for adapting to your own specific needs. You’ll have full access to the tools and knowledge you need to design waveform with optimized correlation/cross-correlation properties for SISO/SIMO and MIMO radars, taking into account spectral constraints for cognitive rads, as well as coexistence with communications and mitigate possible Doppler and quantization errors, and more. The book also includes representative software codes that further help you generate the described solutions. With its unique style of covering mathematical results along with their applications from diverse areas, this is a much-needed, detailed handbook for industry researchers, scientists and designers including medical, marine, defense, and automotive companies. It is also an excellent resource for advanced courses on radar signal processing.

Book excerpt: This book develops theory and algorithms leading to systematic waveform design in time-frequency space. The key tool employed in the work is the Zak transform, which provides a two-dimensional image for sequences, the Fourier transform, convolution, and correlation, and allows for the design of sequences directly in Zak space. Application areas covered include pulse radars and sonars, multibeam radar and sonar imaging systems, remote dielectric material identification, and code division multiple-access communication systems. This is an excellent reference text for graduate students, researchers, and engineers in radar, sonar, and communication systems.

Book excerpt: Solomon Wolf Golomb left an unparalleled legacy of accomplishment and recognition for his work in the applications of mathematics to coding and communication theory. His legacy also includes a host of individuals whose lives and careers were immeasurably enriched by their interactions with him. The co-editors have attempted to collect many articles/essays in this volume, of a not-too-technical sort, by a representative collection of such individuals. Among their motivations is the wish to convince the reader of the incredibly prescient choice of his given name. The first section consists of three articles which have already appeared elsewhere, by noted experts in the fields where the majority of Sol's contributions lie — mathematics, computer science and electrical engineering. The second section consists of three articles by the co-editors in memory of and tribute to Sol. The third section contains 25-30 articles by Sol's family, friends, students, colleagues, etc. They cover a great range of topics and vary widely in length, technicality and other aspects. In the last section are contributions by Sol himself, covering various aspects of his career and interests, as well as other related material.

Book excerpt: With 26 entirely new and 5 extensively revised chapters out of the total of 39, the Mobile Communications Handbook, Third Edition presents an in-depth and up-to-date overview of the full range of wireless and mobile technologies that we rely on every day. This includes, but is not limited to, everything from digital cellular mobile radio and evolving personal communication systems to wireless data and wireless networks Illustrating the extraordinary evolution of wireless communications and networks in the last 15 years, this book is divided into five sections: Basic Principles provides the essential underpinnings for the wide-ranging mobile communication technologies currently in use throughout the world. Wireless Standards contains technical details of the standards we use every day, as well as insights into their development. Source Compression and Quality Assessment covers the compression techniques used to represent voice and video for transmission over mobile communications systems as well as how the delivered voice and video quality are assessed. Wireless Networks examines the wide range of current and developing wireless networks and wireless methodologies. Emerging Applications explores newly developed areas of vehicular communications and 60 GHz wireless communications. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the invited talks of the "RICAM-Workshop on Finite Fields and Their Applications: Character Sums and Polynomials" held at the Federal Institute for Adult Education (BIfEB) in Strobl, Austria, from September 2-7, 2012. Finite fields play important roles in many application areas such as coding theory, cryptography, Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo methods, pseudorandom number generation, quantum computing, and wireless communication. In this book we will focus on sequences, character sums, and polynomials over finite fields in view of the above mentioned application areas: Chapters 1 and 2 deal with sequences mainly constructed via characters and analyzed using bounds on character sums. Chapters 3, 5, and 6 deal with polynomials over finite fields. Chapters 4 and 9 consider problems related to coding theory studied via finite geometry and additive combinatorics, respectively. Chapter 7 deals with quasirandom points in view of applications to numerical integration using quasi-Monte Carlo methods and simulation. Chapter 8 studies aspects of iterations of rational functions from which pseudorandom numbers for Monte Carlo methods can be derived. The goal of this book is giving an overview of several recent research directions as well as stimulating research in sequences and polynomials under the unified framework of character theory.
