When they go to school the next day, it doesn't get much better when the teacher decides to separate the class into boys and girls. Despite the hardship they face, Sid discovers that love will always prevail and that being different is not a bad thing. The simple illustrations and fun rhyming story are fun and catchy for any age! The book also includes an activity section where kids can write about or draw their own experiences with having fun, dealing with unfairness, and remembering those that care about them. Children will fall in love with ""Sid Doesn't Feel like a Boy or a Girl!" This book is the perfect educational resource for: - Children questioning or exploring their gender - Children who have friends that are questioning or exploring their gender, or just want to learn - Parents who's children are questioning or exploring their gender - Teachers who's students are questioning or exploring their gender - Parents or teachers who are misinformed or curious about gender exploration in children Through this book, the author, a 17 year old transgender girl, hopes to reduce the stigma that is directed at transgender and non-binary children. As there are hardly any children's books about being transgender, and even fewer about being non-binary, she hopes this book will be a positive contribution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past research on gender and LGBTQ issues in K-12 and teacher education has primarily focused on identifying ways of fostering inclusive and affirmative school communities for non-cis and/or queer students and enabling learning contexts to promote academic learning. Much of this work has attended to theorizing pedagogies and curricula conducive towards such an aim. Yet, despite legal advances for gender equity and LGBTQ rights in diverse global contexts and the increased visibility of LGBTQ issues in mainstream media, non-cis and queer individuals (especially those of color) continue to experience violence, face housing discrimination, employment discrimination, and the denial of service in public businesses. In light of the numerous growing conservative movements to not only roll back legal advances for LGBTQ individuals, but to also promote a culture of homophobia and transphobia, scholars must attend to the myriad ways in which members of the school community can counter such efforts, and how the multiple facets of the educative experience can be conceptualized beyond a paradigm that continues to marginalize gender diverse and LGBTQ individuals. This volume, Exploring Gender and LGBTQ Issues in K12 and Teacher Education: A Rainbow Assemblage, edited by Adrian D. Martin and Kathryn J. Strom, provides examples of empirical inquiries and theorizations that explore how schools can function as more than safe academic environments for gender diverse and LGBTQ students. The contributing authors attend to classrooms and educative contexts as spaces that promote the affirmative inclusion of not only LGBTQ students, but other education stakeholders as well with the aim to dismantle homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and other hate-based ideologies. The volume serves as an insightful and useful resource for educators, teacher educators, and education researchers engaged in inquiry and pedagogy towards systems of schooling unencumbered by heteronormativity other hate-based ideologies with implications for future professional practice.

Book excerpt: An “extraordinary” novel of five friends coming of age in 1960s New York City, from a New York Times–bestselling, Academy Award–winning author (The Plain Dealer). William Goldman, the versatile author who gave us classic thrillers like Marathon Man, the immortal comedy of The Princess Bride, and the infamous Hollywood tell-all Adventures in the Screen Trade, offers a beautiful and sweeping novel inspired by his own coming-of-age, set against the backdrop of the New York theater world. In Boys and Girls Together, five friends—each of them young, creative, ambitious, and troubled—make their way to Manhattan in pursuit of their dreams. Aaron, the playwright; Walt, the director; Rudy and Jenny, both actors; and Branch, their producer, all come together to struggle, fight, love, create art, and face the hard truths of life. A popular sensation when it was first published in 1964, Boys and Girls Together remains a masterwork of heartbreaking emotional honesty. This ebook features a biography of William Goldman.

Book excerpt: Doctor Rowena Halley signed up to be a professor, not a cop. Now she may have to be judge, jury, and executioner as well. When a student with a hijab and a strong Chechen accent confides in Rowena about a tricky sexual assault case and asks for her help, Rowena can’t say no—again. Being the only Russian professor on campus, as well as the faculty member students go to for help, has its advantages. But the disadvantages can be deadly. After a tragic incident last semester, Rowena is trying to get her career back on track, not to mention her love life. With her Russian ex-fiancé Dima supposedly out of the picture, Rowena is hoping to build a future across the country in California with her American boyfriend Alex. But the past has a nasty habit of coming back to haunt you. When Aishat Aslanbekova comes to Rowena with her suspicions that she was drugged and assaulted at a frat party, Rowena finds herself forced to confront her own demons as well as Aishat’s. With Aishat making accusations against the college’s star quarterback and posterchild for diversity, Rowena doesn’t know which will be more heartbreaking: finding out that Aishat is lying, or finding out she’s telling the truth. Either way, both Aishat and the men she says assaulted her are in danger of an honor killing at the hands of Aishat’s family. Rowena believes in non-violence. Non-violence may not believe in her. *Content warning: Along with the kind of adult language you should expect from mouthy undergrads and battle-scarred Iraq vets, this book also contains a serious discussion of racism, Islamophobia, economic injustice, PTSD, and sexual assault. You’ve been warned.*
