Book excerpt: The reference text for all those practicing diagnostic and therapeutic pediatric endoscopy – trainees, trainers, specialist endoscopists, gastroenterologists and hepatologists alike. Practical Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 3rd Edition provides a comprehensive and up-to-date exploration for the performance of endoscopy in infants, children and young adults. Written in the form of a complete "how to" manual and filled with step-by-step instructions, this book seeks to bring newcomers to the field of pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy quickly up to speed. The book is also highly useful for experienced specialist endoscopists and gastroenterologists to brush up on best practice in standard techniques and explore advanced topics in the field. Practical Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy highlights the substantial and important differences between performing an endoscopy on a mature adult and performing one in a pediatric patient. The differences discussed include: GI pathology Subtleties of diagnostic technique specific to children Application of therapeutic endoscopy to specifically pediatric scenarios Anesthesia and sedation Training and skill maintenance Sophisticated endoscopic techniques adapted from adult endoscopy to children and those techniques specifically orientated to problems and diseases mainly encountered in childhood. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To determine the role of stent placement for benign esophageal strictures (BES), we studied which strictures poorly respond to standard dilation therapy and whether increasing the target diameter of bougie dilation can further optimize the outcomes of dilation therapy. Hereafter, the clinical outcomes of esophageal stent placement for benign strictures and anastomotic leaks, perforations and fistulas have been analyzed. We found that the clinical success rates of stent placement for benign esophageal leaks, perforations and fistulas widely varied. Therefore a clinical prediction rule was developed to predict the individual probability of successful stent therapy. In addition to the analyses of the outcomes of stent placement, we also addressed the safety of endoscopic stent removal from the esophagus after temporary stent placement. A small subgroup of patients with therapy-resistant benign esophageal strictures (TRBES) does not respond to endoscopic treatment. In this subgroup of patients we studied the clinical outcomes of esophageal self-dilation."--Samenvatting auteur.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid development of modern medical technology, endoscopic technology has also achieved unprecedented development. Its fields cover examination, treatment, surgery, and even molecular imaging diagnosis. Endoscopy technology brings a minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment experience to patients. Invasive treatment and examination of digestive surgery has changed from large incisions to several Trocar holes, from surgery to endoscopic treatment, and from laparotomy to endoscopy or laparoscopy, which has changed the diagnosis treatment and management of digestive surgery, enhanced the recovery after surgery, and benefited the patients needing to undergo surgical procedures. It is for this reason that we plan to introduce the development of endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery in digestive surgery and enhanced rehabilitation medicine.
