Book excerpt: Scary View is a story that reflects a strange and diabolical view of the world. The story starts with a corpsman who is in the beginning of the Gulf War. He is assigned with a marine recon unit and finds courage in the middle of battle. His wife and children go back home to Greenville, California. His eyes were opened to evil during battle and see his town engulfed with evil. He leads a revival with the local churches that backfire. The town and his family enter into a world of hell he never would have anticipated. His family is torn apart, and so is the town. In the center of the town is the local hospital. Its called the Sacred View of the Virgin Mary, but the locals call it scary view. With a history of death and secrets, it holds up to its name. It is a hospital with sterile white walls with paint peeling and of staph infections. The staff has little regards for human life but puts a large amount on the monetary gains from the dead and living. The town also has its secrets and mysteries of deaths. The remainder of the book tells stories of the hospital and the town, and at the end, is an ominous warning. Its a scary view of the world in which we now live in. We know things are true because they are. My little brother is in a museum in Indiana. He used to watch the ball game with my grandfather.

Book excerpt: A Sunday Times Business Book of the Year. Scary Smart will teach you how to navigate the scary and inevitable intrusion of Artificial Intelligence, with an accessible blueprint for creating a harmonious future alongside AI. From Mo Gawdat, the former Chief Business Officer at Google [X] and bestselling author of Solve for Happy. Technology is putting our humanity at risk to an unprecedented degree. This book is not for engineers who write the code or the policy makers who claim they can regulate it. This is a book for you. Because, believe it or not, you are the only one that can fix it. - Mo Gawdat Artificial intelligence is smarter than humans. It can process information at lightning speed and remain focused on specific tasks without distraction. AI can see into the future, predict outcomes and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. So why does AI frequently get it so wrong and cause harm? The answer is us: the human beings who write the code and teach AI to mimic our behaviour. Scary Smart explains how to fix the current trajectory now, to make sure that the AI of the future can preserve our species. This book offers a blueprint, pointing the way to what we can do to safeguard ourselves, those we love, and the planet itself. 'No one ever regrets reading anything Mo Gawdat has written.' - Emma Gannon, author of The Multi-Hyphen Method and host of the podcast Ctrl Alt Delete

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our trade deficit increases by $2 billion a day. Pharmaceutical companies and their lobbyists have such influence in Washington that Medicare, by current law, is not allowed to negotiate lower drug prices. We import oil on an ever-increasing scale, putting ourselves into dept with the Saudis, the Kuwaitis, and other Middle Eastern nations. With their windfall profits, they continue to buy American assets. China's booming economy and abundance of cheap labor are threatening our economic survival. We have mortgaged our fortunes, our principles, and our way of life. In this comprehensive look at the real, human toll of America's unsound trade policy, Senator Byron Dorgan exposes the myth of "free trade." Indeed, free trade is not free; it is something that is slowly but surely draining away American prosperity. Sure, Chinese labor can drive down prices at Wal-Mart; at the same time, however, those saved wages-dollars that would have gone to buy these cheaper goods-are gone. Too soon, it will all come crashing down. Major U.S. corporations continue to ship jobs overseas by the millions and, because of their influence in Washington, avoid paying a king's ransom in taxes. Many billions of dollars that these companies fleece from the government and the American people go overwhelmingly to investments in expanding production capabilities overseas. In short, our government is in the grip of corporate and foreign interests, and the American worker has born the brunt of this culture of corruption. How can we stem the tide of outsourcing? Why has the White House done nothing? Will the middle class survive? From describing corporate profiteering to calling to action a lethargic, inactive government, Byron Dorgan exposes the truth about the destructive relationship between corporations and Congress and proposes strategies for what can really be done to preserve America's preeminence in the world.

This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to describe how an established technology company or an entrepreneur can use crowdfunding to raise capital from accredited investors. The book is targeted to small private technology companies, usually with less than 10 employees, and with more than 3 years of operational experience. Within the category of equity crowdfunding, there is a sub-category called "accredited investor" crowdfunding, characterized by investments made by investors who expect a profit, and generally will continue to support the enterprise over a longer period of time than the venture capitalist. Generally, the goal for the amount raised would be around $1 million. As is the case for most of the Reg D capital raised in 2012, the use of the capital is for business growth and expansion, in such items as new staff, sales and marketing, and new capital equipment. From a technological point of view, the capital would generally be used to improve an existing product or service, called a sustaining innovation. The book covers the steps and executive or entrepreneur follows to prepare and execute a crowdfunding project. It provides a detailed analysis of the 10 accredited investor crowdfunding websites currently in operation. This book is not about donor-based crowdfunding, or its near cousin, non-accredited investor crowdfunding. This book is intended for CEOs of technology companies and technology entrepreneurs who would like to learn more about this new technique of raising capital.
