Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "ULTIMATE Collection of Rudyard Kipling: His Greatest Works in One Volume" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. "The Jungle Book" is a collection of stories and fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned "man cub" Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other four stories are probably Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Toomai of the Elephants. "The Second Jungle Book" is a sequel which features five stories about Mowgli and three unrelated stories, all but one set in India, most of which Kipling wrote while living in Vermont. "The Man Who Would Be King" is a novella about two British adventurers in British India who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan. The story was inspired by the exploits of James Brooke, an Englishman who became the first White Rajah of Sarawak in Borneo. "Kim" is and adventure novel about the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor Irish mother who have both died in poverty. Living a vagabond existence in India under British rule in the late 19th century, Kim earns his living by begging and running small errands on the streets of Lahore. "The Just So Stories" are a highly fantasized origin stories, especially for differences among animals, they are among Kipling's best known works. "The Light That Failed" "Captain Courageous" "Plain Tales from the Hills" Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. He wrote tales and poems of British soldiers in India and stories for children. He is regarded as a major innovator in the art of the short story; his children's books are classics of children's literature.

Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated collection of Rudyard Kipling's complete novels has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. "Stalky & Co." is a novel about adolescent boys at a British boarding school. Reflecting its origins, the novel is episodic in nature, with self-contained chapters. It is set at an unnamed school referred to as the College or the Coll., which is based on the United Services College in Devon, which Kipling attended. The character Beetle, one of the main trio, is partly based on Kipling himself, while the charismatic character Stalky is based on Lionel Dunsterville, M'Turk is based on George Charles Beresford and Mr King is based on William Carr Crofts. "Kim" is and adventure novel about the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor Irish mother who have both died in poverty. Living a vagabond existence in India under British rule in the late 19th century, Kim earns his living by begging and running small errands on the streets of Lahore. "Captains Courageous" follows the adventures of fifteen-year-old Harvey Cheyne Jr., the spoiled son of a railroad tycoon, after he is saved from drowning by a Portuguese fisherman in the north Atlantic. "The Light That Failed" is a psychological novel. Most of the novel is set in London, but many important events throughout the story occur in Sudan or India. The Light that Failed follows the life of Dick Heldar, a painter who goes blind. "Naulahka: A Story of East and West", is an adventure novels, the story of a priceless Indian jewel. Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. He wrote tales and poems of British soldiers in India and stories for children.

Book excerpt: Though the drama of Oscar Wilde's life has for many years obscured the artistry of his work, recent critical and biographical studies have generated renewed interest in his writings and created a demand for a new, up-to-date scholarly anthology. This fully annotated volume, the latest in the acclaimed Oxford Authors series, is the first comprehensive edition of Wilde to provide the information necessary to appreciate the wealth of knowledge and allusion upon which his writing stands. In addition to his most famous works--The Picture of Dorian Gray, Lady Windermere's Fan, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Critic as Artist, and The Ballad of Reading Gaol--this edition includes a wealth of other fiction, drama, critical dialogues, and poems. Like the other Oxford Authors titles, this edition includes a critical introduction, a chronology, and suggestions for further reading.
