Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How efficient is the Chinese healthcare system? Milcent examines the medication market in China against the global picture of healthcare organization, and how public healthcare insurance plans have been implemented in recent years, as well as reforms to tackle hospital inefficiency. Healthcare reforms, demographic changes and an increase in wealth inequity have altered healthcare preferences, which need to be addressed. Significantly, the patient–medical staff relationship is analysed, with new proposals for different lines of communication. Milcent puts forward digital healthcare in China as a tool to solve inefficiency and rising tensions, and generate profit. Where China is leading in the digitalization of healthcare, other countries can learn important lessons. Chinese social models are also put into context with respect to current reforms and experimentation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: COVID-19 and increased attention to how institutions of higher education (IHEs) serve an increasingly diverse student population have brought conversations about “standard” practices from the margins to the center as faculty explore how to improve learning and student success for all students. Historically, IHEs were built by a privileged class for a privileged class, a system, and structure built on specific epistemologies, practices, and habits of mind and language that replicate privilege and leave many students underserved in their academic pursuits. One way faculty have increased equity in their college classrooms is through the use of alternative assessment (alt-assessment) practices. This volume aims to share the experiences of faculty who have leveraged “non-traditional” grading paradigms for the sake of increasing student learning, a sense of belonging, and equity in their classrooms. Meant to orient faculty who are considering how to implement alt-assessment in their own classes as well as those who are already employing various grading frameworks, this volume will celebrate new and innovative approaches, share lessons learned, and invite a broader coalition of faculty into the stream of conversation about pedagogical innovation. Faculty, educators, and practitioners share their approaches to alternate assessment in this volume, as well as the critiques, lessons, and outcomes associated with their pedagogical decisions. Written by practitioners for practitioners, we hope the book will provide theoretical and practical guidance for alternative assessment practices such as ungrading, contract grading, standards-based grading, and labor-based grading across various disciplines and within different academic contexts.

This book was released on 2003-04-24 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endocrine Replacement Therapy in Clinical Practice, an update of Hormone Repla- ment Therapy published by Humana Press in 1999, aims to assist the endocrinologist, gynecologist, pediatrician, urologist, general surgeon, neurologist, neurosurgeon, p- chiatrist, generalist, and trainee in management of their patients with hormonal defici- cies or altered hormonal synthesis or responses. Many new authors have added several new chapters, and all of the previous chapters have been updated. Endocrine testing used to diagnose endocrine disorders and monitor hormone replacement therapy is reviewed. However, detailed discussion of physiology and pathophysiology is not an aim of this book, and these topics are covered in other volumes on endocrinology. Although no one is considered an expert in all areas of endocrine replacement therapy, each of the authors here have extensive knowledge and experience in the management of patients with s- cific endocrine disorders requiring hormone replacement treatment. Although some differences of opinion exist among experts in replacement therapy, each writer has attempted to give a balanced, unbiased recommendation. When com- rable regimens exist, the authors have made this apparent to the reader who can then choose the best treatment for the individual patient. Cost, therapeutic effectiveness, and route of administration are all important considerations in making the final selection of replacement therapy.
