Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction Marian and I were together for forty one years. She passed away on September 21,2008 at 12:40 am. It took me two years to look at all the hallmark cards I gave her and she gave me. She was the sorceress of cards. She did not need a special occasion (like I did) to give a card. She just gave you one. She would drive ten miles to put a card on your door if she felt you needed a lift. She was not a religious person. She was a person with a big heart and a smile who would give herself to you completely. She was involved in many charities. Her favorite was Childrens Home Society ; where she volunteered for twenty five years. At the end of her life she was donating to some fifteen charities. I am attempting to show the kindness and generosity of my wife. I did not include the words of the cards she gave because they are all copy righted. I did include some letters and words she wrote on the cards. She took card giving seriously. When she gave you a card she felt and meant what the card said. Hoping you saw what she was trying to say. Card companies do a great job and they brought great joy to my wife. I thank them for that. I hope you get a great feel for who my wife was. I am sure there are women in America who buy cards every week and categorize them in a large box just like my wife. I praise you for your generosity and kindness. Thank you for listening. I love you !

Book excerpt: Based on Forster’s personal experiences working and travelling in India in the 1920s, A Passage to India is set in British India in the midst of the Indian independence movement. The story follows an Indian Muslim physician, Dr. Aziz, and his burgeoning friendship with two visiting Englishwomen and Cyril Fielding, a local university principal. Things are brought to a head when during a trip to the Marabar Caves, Dr. Aziz is accused of sexually assaulting one of the women. The subsequent trial is protracted and painful, and serves to highlight the racial tensions between Englishmen and Indians at the time.

Book excerpt: D-Passage is a unique book by the world-renowned filmmaker, artist, and critical theorist Trinh T. Minh-ha. Taking as grounding forces her feature film Night Passage and installation L'Autre marche (The Other Walk), both co-created with Jean-Paul Bourdier, she discusses the impact of new technology on cinema culture and explores its effects on creative practice. Less a medium than a "way," the digital is here featured in its mobile, transformative passages. Trinh's reflections shed light on several of her major themes: temporality; transitions; transcultural encounters; ways of seeing and knowing; and the implications of the media used, the artistic practices engaged in, and the representations created. In D-Passage, form and structure, rhythm and movement, and language and imagery are inseparable. The book integrates essays, artistic statements, in-depth conversations, the script of Night Passage, movie stills, photos, and sketches.

Book excerpt: Jodie Broom, a 12-year-old girl (almost 13 ), is like most girls her age. She loves her friends, music, and is always up for a good adventure. What she treasures above all else are books and she is consumed by them, reading and collecting whatever she can to satisfy her voracious appetite for stories, facts, and history. But Jodie lives in the year 2075, and more than fifty years have passed since the banning of books and paper; it's a time when no one can own a printed book, or even print photographs. In this E-world, experiences are largely simulated, from the reconstituted food to the zoo that only shows films of all the extinct species. With her student library card, which gives her the ability to time travel, Jodie discovers that she and her friends can experience historical events and meet legendary characters, and can also find and bring home her precious books to keep safe in her secret hiding place
