Book excerpt: This is a great book for all ages that dives into the heart of the Pacific Northwest's most fascinating unexplained mystery known to many as Bigfoot! Throughout the book you'll find a few colorful photos that I took while in the field on some of my most recent Bigfoot adventures. I also talk about a recent encounter I had in Washington State while I was on a 8 mile night hike through Wellington! It was an unforgettable hike that ended with a possible close encounter with Bigfoot followed by a wood knocking adventure that I'll never forget. After that I discuss some of my thoughts on the primate language of wood knocking and why it can be helpful to other Bigfoot researchers as well. If you're looking for some new ideas or simply want to add something different to your Bigfoot book collections, check out this book.

Book excerpt: One of America’s most esteemed natural history writers takes to the hills of the Pacific Northwest in search of Bigfoot—and finds the wildness within ourselves. “A unique book in the bigfoot literature . . . that understands what most lifetime bigfooters eventually come to know: that bigfooting is about the journey more than the destination.” —Cliff Barackman, field researcher and star of Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot Awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to investigate the legends of Sasquatch, Yale–trained ecologist Dr. Robert Pyle treks into the unprotected wilderness of the Dark Divide near Mount St. Helens, where he discovers both a giant fossil footprint and recent tracks. On the trail of what he thought was legend, he searches out Indians who tell him of an outcast tribe, the Seeahtiks, who had not fully evolved into humans. A handful of open–minded biologists and anthropologists counter the tabloids Pyle studies, while rogue Forest Service employees and loggers swear of a vast conspiracy to deep–six true stories of unknown, upright hominoid apes among us. He attends Sasquatch Daze, where he meets scientists, hunters, and others who have devoted their lives to the search, only to realize that “these guys don't want to find Bigfoot―they want to be Bigfoot!” Where Bigfoot Walks was the inspiration for the 2020 film The Dark Divide, starring David Cross and Debra Messing. Since the book’s original publication, Pyle’s fresh experiences and findings have been added to his original work through an updated chapter. With an evaluation of recent DNA evidence from Bigfoot hair and scat, the study of speech phonemes in the “Sierra Sounds” purported Bigfoot recordings, an examination of the impact of the wildly popular Animal Planet series Bigfoot Hunters, the reemergence of the famous Bob Gimlin into the Bigfoot community, and more, Walking With Bigfoot keeps every Bigfoot enthusiast’s mind wide open to one of the biggest questions in the land and brings Pyle’s work on the “legend” of Bigfoot into the new century.

Book excerpt: Bigfoot! Huge, hairy, foul smelling, this legendary apelike animal continues to captivate the public''s imagination. This fascination hinges on a single piece of motion-picture film shot in northern California in 1967. For thirty-five years, Bigfoot believers have been convinced that this sixty-second piece of film proves the physical reality of Bigfoot. But now comes a book that demolishes that belief, that produces final proof that the film footage is a hoax. The Making of Bigfoot tells the amazing story of Roger Patterson of Yakima, Washington. A part-time rodeo rider, chronically unemployed and dying of cancer, Patterson propelled himself into short-lived fame and fortune by exploiting his obsession with the Bigfoot subject and leveraging his expertise in manipulating and conning people to pull off one of the world''s great hoaxes. Living within two hours of Patterson''s hometown, for three years paranormal investigator and author Greg Long interviewed more than forty witnesses in Yakima who knew Patterson intimately. The voices of these witnesses, combined with facts unearthed from newspaper archives, books, and court documents, tell the real story of Roger Patterson. Both tragic and comical, a unique slice of Americana, The Making of Bigfoot captures the testimony of a colorful cast of characters who bring to life a man and a time in the 1960s when Bigfoot strode into the American imagination, and the world embraced a myth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether presented comedically in popular culture or explored as a serious scientific curiosity, giant, hairy, manlike creatures have become well known entities in these modern times. These bipedal monsters have been called by many names - most commonly "Bigfoot" and "Sasquatch" - but these terms have only been in our popular vocabulary since the 1950s. Long before that time people were seeing and documenting the creatures. Many old newspaper accounts tell of encounters with "wild men," "gorillas," "ape-men," and "hairy giants," issuing unearthly howls and leaving mysterious footprints in their wake. No matter the names given to the creatures, from the descriptions of their appearance and behavior, consistent from the earliest newspaper articles to modern reports, people have been seeing Bigfoot for as long as we have been keeping records. This volume collects newspaper articles from California, Oregon, and Washington dating from the 1850s through the 1920s. Herein are tales of huge gorillas roaming wild in the California hills, hairy giants haunting Oregon, and wild men attacking women in Washington. Read about a gorilla-like creature killed by hunters who described its appearance in great detail; a wild man who visited the campus of a major university on several occasions; and a strange dreamlike tale of a young man abducted by a hairy biped and taken to its underground lair.

Book excerpt: This collection of Sasquatch encounters includes several reports that took longer than usual to complete, due to additional correspondence to confirm through additional witnesses and other sources; some heretofore unreported instances of questionable relationships between our story submitters' and their Bigfoot acquaintances. An example of the necessity we felt to confirm some of the more unusual reports, was the person who purchased a rural property and from the outset, he experienced an encounter with some resident Sasquatch which was quite unpleasant. According to the submitter, he was pestered and harassed by these creatures until it came down to a violent confrontation causing him to use a firearm. There were no injuries, but he learned too late how to relate to these resident Sasquatch and he sold the home and property and returned to the city. Another couple had back-to-back encounters with Sasquatch and they report how the clever Bigfoot actually changed their methods of disguising their presence, by using tree branches to erase their own tracks to their secret fishing hole in the Washington state mountains. Forced to abandon their second excursion by a sudden forest fire, our reports had the experience of a lifetime. Another submitter inherited a lakeshore cabin in Michigan, and once again was reunited with Sasquatch he had first met as a child when visiting his grandfather. Both human and Sasquatch were reunited over the gravesite of the grandfather's golden Labrador companion, whom both human and Sasquatch shared memories. This collection seems to share a common thread of closer involvement between species than most, and even though the research required more checks and balances, we thoroughly enjoyed sharing our submitters' excitement.

Book excerpt: In this landmark work on a subject too often dismissed as paranormal or disreputable, Jeff Meldrum gives us the first book on sasquatch to be written by a scientist with impeccable academic credentials, an objective look at the facts in a field mined with hoaxes and sensationalism. Meldrum reports on the work of a team of experts from a wide variety of fields who were assembled to examine the evidence for a large, yet undiscovered, North American primate. He reviews the long history of this mystery--which long predates the "bigfoot" flap of the late fifties--and explains all the scientific pros and cons in a clear and accessible style, amplified by over 150 illustrations. Anyone who has pondered the mysteries of human evolution will be fascinated and eager to join Dr. Meldrum in drawing their own conclusion.
