He comes by the special and peculiar promise of God. He is a birth of supernatural grace. A Christian is a superhuman creation. A Christian is born from above. As Isaac was is the legend of every believer in Christ. The Church of Jesus is a com pany of men and women of supernatural origin. The Church is a proof of the supernatural. Yes. Every Christian is an Isaac. Never let us read of Isaac's entry into history without surveying it in the light of Paul's allegory. Each Christian of the world has had a magnificent origin. Heaven is his fatherland. He is a supernatural creation. As we are Isaacs in supernaturalness of origin why not be Isaacs in gladness? Let every Christian be joy ful in the Lord. Who has such warranty for being a son of laughter as he who is a Child of promise? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Sinners of the Bible Others have given up in despair and closed the church at night. Still others go on their way with fairly well filled pews in the morning, and only here and there a scattered listener at night. For many years I have been pastor of down-town churches in large cities, and during all those years have never failed to have full houses on Sunday night. The publishers of this volume have asked me to furnish them with a series of Sunday night sermons running through the autumn and Winter, and this book is the result. The ser mons included in it were preached during the autumn and winter of 1898 and 1899, in the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Cleveland, Ohio. They were delivered to audiences that constantly taxed the seating capacity of a very large church. The publishers have also asked me to add a word concerning my theory about the Sunday night service and my method of conducting it. My theory is very simple. It is this: men and women will not go to church very long, or very frequently, unless they are personally preached to. I preach on Sunday morning to Christian people largely. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Men of the Bible A great many people are afraid of the will of God, and yet I believe that one of the sweetest lessons that we can learn in the school of Christ is the surrender of our wills to God, letting Him plan for us and rule our lives. If I know my own mind, if an angel should come from the throne of God and tell me that I could have my will done the rest of my days on earth and that everything I wished should be carried out, or that I might refer it back to God, and let God's will be done in me and through me, I think in an instant I would say. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday Christians need practical and accessible theology. In this handbook first published in 1890, Charles Octavius Boothe simply and beautifully lays out the basics of theology for common people. "Before the charge 'know thyself,'" Boothe wrote, "ought to come the far greater charge, 'know thy God.'" He brought the heights of academic theology down to everyday language, and he helps us do the same today. Plain Theology for Plain People shows that evangelicalism needs the wisdom and experience of African American Christians. Walter R. Strickland II reintroduces this forgotten masterpiece for today. Lexham Classics are beautifully typeset new editions of classic works. Each book has been carefully transcribed from the original texts, ensuring an accurate representation of the writing as the author intended it to be read.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Chosen People While it may seem that, with all the facilities which the country affords to rich and poor alike, such instruction in schools would be superfluous, the fact remains that, with the exception of a few well-known stories, the children have no idea of the contents of the Old Testament. This lack of gen eral information on the subject is often a great drawback to teachers in the course of their instruction, as references are constantly made to the Bible.
