Book excerpt: From the time I can remember, I grew up identifying as a Christian. At a very young age, I just knew that God was real. More importantly, growing up in the South, that was just the right thing to do. Everyone went to church, and pretty much everyone said they were a Christian. These values of mine held up for a while, until I became mature enough to engage in deductive reasoning.I got tired of being the "good christian" and not really knowing why, other than that's what I believed. As I read the Bible, I saw that everything about it was supernatural. There was only one problem: absolutely nothing about my life was! I wanted to know if the Bible I read was just a good book to be revered, or if the God I read about was still manifesting the same way he was years ago!In college, I wiped the slate clean. I no longer wanted to say I was a Christian because of what my parents, friends, or even preachers said. I wanted to see the power of God in my life. I challenged God to show himself to me if he was still the same God I read about, and boy did he show up. God catapulted me into the realm of the supernatural, and gave me answers as to why his children don't see more in life. If you want to know what I found out, look inside!

Book excerpt: This book for youth leaders, pastors, and parents looks deep into the mirror of pop and church culture and asks the difficult, and often maddening, question, “Are those things we produce and consume defining us?” Author Stephen Ingram explores these themes of moralism, deism, meism, consumerism, pluralism, and therapeutic religion of pop culture, as well as current sociological and psychological data. Hollow Faith separates the values of the gospel from the cultural norms that have domesticated them including: How we believe we should act (The Andy Griffith Show) How we want to be known (Facebook) What we aspire to become (the American Dream) Ingram says that once we recognize these serious shifts in our faith, we can begin to have discussions, develop plans, and form actions to reclaim the vibrant, life-giving faith of the Bible. Includes a Parents Guide in the back.

Book excerpt: We have all experienced a disconnect between God's promises to us and our everyday reality. We wait, without understanding why. We want to know God's plan so that we can trust it--but God so often hides his plan so that we will trust him. What can we do in the meantime as we are waiting for an answer, a change, or a miracle? With deep compassion, Wayne Stiles helps readers understand why God makes them wait. Unpacking the Old Testament story of Joseph, Stiles shows readers how to find comfort and opportunity in the time between God's promises and his answers, revealing the perspective-altering truth that sometimes when we think we are waiting on God, he is actually waiting on us. Anyone who has felt a disconnect between God's promises and their reality, who doesn't know what God wants them to do next, or who struggles with the brokenness of their world will find in Wayne Stiles a wise and trustworthy guide to finding peace in the pauses.

He works at a Christian social media company that services churches and ministries. His family attends the local mega-church, where his wife Megan has just been made the female worship leader. His kids, Hailey and Austin have been put through private Christian school, where Austin is in his senior year. Hailey attends the local Community college. Mitch's Christian walk and relationship with God goes only as far as the image he's projected. For many years, Mitch has been numbing himself while his Christian walk has grown hollow to the point where Mitch can't even tell the difference anymore. But then, several serious devastating events hit Mitch's life unexpectedly, leaving him to ask is there a real God and what was the point of his faith. "And just believe? Really? That's your great answer?! Why should I believe in this God stuff anymore? You know I'm getting a little tired of left holding the bag here while being completely humiliated in the process! So tell me what's the magic formula? Who do I have to watch online or listen to on the radio? What tape series or book do I need to buy? Tell me what the algebra is for God? So I can have my life back!" Mitch shouts back.

Book excerpt: His Roman-Catholic faith has been an enduring part of the life and personality of William Buckley, Jr. Now, for the first time since his ground breaking God and the Man at Yale he has written a book about faith--his own. Nearer, My God, An Autobiography of Faith is William Buckley's superbly written story of his life seen through his abiding love for the Catholic Church, a love instilled in him from childhood. He reminisces about his school days in England, his family, the affect the Lunn/Knox dialogue had on him, and examines many aspects of Catholicism and its theology, doctrine and liturgy and on the way discourses about Lourdes, the vernacular mass, the Church and the State, the Crucifixion, the priesthood, contraception as well as the many people who have assisted him on his life's journey. A remarkable, revealing book about one man and his faith.

Book excerpt: Bestselling author of Geography of Bliss returns with this funny, illuminating chronicle of a globe-spanning spiritual quest to find a faith that fits. When a health scare puts him in the hospital, Eric Weiner-an agnostic by default-finds himself tangling with an unexpected question, posed to him by a well-meaning nurse. "Have you found your God yet?" The thought of it nags him, and prods him-and ultimately launches him on a far-flung journey to do just that. Weiner, a longtime "spiritual voyeur" and inveterate traveler, realizes that while he has been privy to a wide range of religious practices, he's never seriously considered these concepts in his own life. Face to face with his own mortality, and spurred on by the question of what spiritual principles to impart to his young daughter, he decides to correct this omission, undertaking a worldwide exploration of religions and hoping to come, if he can, to a personal understanding of the divine. The journey that results is rich in insight, humor, and heart. Willing to do anything to better understand faith, and to find the god or gods that speak to him, he travels to Nepal, where he meditates with Tibetan lamas and a guy named Wayne. He sojourns to Turkey, where he whirls (not so well, as it turns out) with Sufi dervishes. He heads to China, where he attempts to unblock his chi; to Israel, where he studies Kabbalah, sans Madonna; and to Las Vegas, where he has a close encounter with Raelians (followers of the world's largest UFO-based religion). At each stop along the way, Weiner tackles our most pressing spiritual questions: Where do we come from? What happens when we die? How should we live our lives? Where do all the missing socks go? With his trademark wit and warmth, he leaves no stone unturned. At a time when more Americans than ever are choosing a new faith, and when spiritual questions loom large in the modern age, Man Seeks God presents a perspective on religion that is sure to delight, inspire, and entertain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Lisa Velthouse’s whole life, Christianity had been about getting things right. Obeying her parents. Not drinking. Not cursing. Not having premarital sex. Vowing to save her first kiss until she got engaged, even writing a book called . . . well, Saving My First Kiss. (This, it turns out, does not actually help a girl get a date.) Yet after two decades of trying to earn God’s okay, she found her faith was lonely, empty, and unsatisfying. So she turned to more discipline, of course: fasting! By giving up her favorite foods—sweets—Lisa hoped to somehow discover true sweetness and meaning in her relationship with God. Until, one night at a wedding, she denied herself the cake but failed in such a different, unexpected, and world-rocking way that it challenged everything she thought she knew about God and herself. Craving Grace is the true story of a faith dramatically changed: how in one woman’s life God used a bitter heart, a broken promise, and the sweetness of honey to reveal the stunning wonder that is grace.
