Book excerpt: When Patricia returned the missing sapphire of Zangrabar she had no idea the Maharaja would consider himself eternally in her debt. Hardly surprising then that she has been invited to his son’s coronation as the new Maharaja. There’s intrigue and mystery afoot though; the Marahaja’s invite suggested he had a mystery for her to solve, but in true Patricia style, it’s nowhere near that simple. Someone in Zangrabar wants her dead but they didn’t count on the tenacity of her friends and the loyalty of her butler. Beware wrongdoers, Patricia is getting used to ruining nefarious plans. However, with her friends going missing, secretive servants, lies and unexplained events, it’s soon time for Patricia to ditch the willing smiles and go full sleuth-mode. Get ready for adventure in the desert as Patricia and her entourage take on a secret mission that will place them in the middle of a perilous conspiracy and may cost them more than they want to pay.

Book excerpt: The lives of Srila Prabhupada and his disciples are recounted, encouraging all to follow the devotional path of Bhakti, and be liberated in the eternally blissful spiritual realm. The Mission: Srila Prabhupada and His Divine Agents illustrates the life and teachings of a spiritual visionary, highlighting his enduring and inspiring legacy. The son and successor of the great Gaudiya Vaishnava acharya Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur, Srila Prabhupada established the Gaudiya Math, a dynamic spiritual and educational mission with 64 branches in India and several international centers, which have spread the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu around the world. His noble life’s mission, powerful speeches and writings, and devoted disciples and followers continue his legacy of wisdom and divine love. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s philosophy is centered on the ideal that we should be soul conscious, rather than body conscious. The Mission: Srila Prabhupada and His Divine Agents explores and explains how to use this philosophy to deliver oneself from attachments to material existence and achieve the ultimate goal: chanting the Mahamantra with pure devotion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cecil Tyndale-Biscoe polarised opinion in early 20th India by his unconventional methods of educating Kashmiris and, through them, changing the social order of a society steeped in old superstitions. He was a man of contradictions: a Christian and a boxer, a missionary who made very few converts, a staunch supporter of British imperialism and a friend of Kashmir's political reformers. He made enemies of the Hindu Establishment, who described him as 'exceedingly a bad man and one too much fond of cricket,' but earned the respect of two successive Hindu Maharajas, as well as the Muslim leader, who succeeded them. He was 27 when he became the Principal of the Church Missionary Society's school in Kashmir in 1890 and he left as India gained independence in 1947. His vision was of a school in action, vigorously involved in the affairs and problems of the city of Srinagar, to support the weak and to fight corruption wherever it occurred. Under his leadership the masters and boys were engaged in fighting fires in the city, saving people from drowning, taking hospital patients for outings on the lakes, helping women and removing the ban on the remarriage of young widows. His avowed purpose was to make his students into honest, fearless leaders, who would serve their beloved country of Kashmir. The book begins with the medieval condition of Kashmir in the nineteenth century; describes the development of his unusual approach to education; explores the many challenges he had to overcome, including his chronic bad health, his difficulties with the CMS and the opposition of the Hindu establishment and State Government; and contrasts this with the speedy and enthusiastic acceptance by his young Kashmiri teachers and students of what he was offering and how together they transformed their society and prepared Kashmir for independence.
