Cross is delighting us again with a deeper and more focused, but equally as light hearted look into our Souls journey in her latest release “Metaphysics the True Original Sins”. Kathy believes, in the deepest parts of our psyche where man/woman fear to tread, or are even oblivious to, we can access the answers to the dark side of our lives, and how this knowledge can start to heal us on all levels, body, mind and Soul. If growing spiritually, healing generational wounds and living a rockin cool life are of interest to you, Metaphysics the True Original Sins just might hold some answers. This book is raw, honest, and a bit cheeky, just the recipe required in making real change and identifying why at some level we are all naughty, little sinners!

Book excerpt: In an age where appearances are often substituted for what really is, deception and falsity for honesty and truth, this metaphysics book takes things 'as they actually are' and discovers that reality 'is' actuality (which as subsistent is God), that philosophical knowledge in its content is caused by what is known and is objectively true. It considers goodness and beauty, human existents as individual, relational units (e.g., the family), agents and goals, chance and evil. It is in contrast with Sartrean existentialism, process philosophy, linguistic analysis, phenomenology, hermeneutics, and deconstructionism.

Book excerpt: Without a proper understanding of sin, there can never be a proper understanding of the gospel. Sin is opposed both to God's will and to nature, leaving us in need of God's grace and redemption. This comprehensive exploration of the doctrine of sin looks at what the Bible teaches about sin's origin, nature, and consequences, engaging with historical and contemporary movements. Dealing with difficult issues such as original sin, angelic sin, corporate sin, greater and lesser sins, and more, this book ends with a discussion on divine grace, which is the only hope for the problem of sin.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on a dimension of art which the philosophical tradition (from Plato to Hegel and even Adorno) has consistently overlooked, such was its commitment – explicit or implicit – to mimesis and the metaphysics of truth it presupposes. De Beistegui refers to this dimension, which unfolds outside the space that stretches between the sensible and the supersensible – the space of metaphysics itself – as the hypersensible and show how the operation of art to which it corresponds is best described as metaphorical. The movement of the book, then, is from the classical or metaphysical aesthetics of mimesis (Part One) to the aesthetics of the hypersensible and metaphor (Part Two). Against much of the history of aesthetics and the metaphysical discourse on art, he argues that the philosophical value of art doesn’t consist in its ability to bridge the space between the sensible and the supersensible, or the image and the Idea, and reveal the sensible as proto-conceptual, but to open up a different sense of the sensible. His aim, then, is to shift the place and role that philosophy attributes to art.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We think it is wise to accept reality, rather than fight for something that does not exist or might never be. But in Of Reality, Gianni Vattimo condemns this complacency, with its implicit support of the status quo. Instead he urges us to never stop questioning, contrasting, or overcoming reality, which is not natural, inevitable, or objective. Reality is a construct, reflecting, among other things, our greed, biases, and tendencies toward violence. It is no accident, Vattimo argues, that the call to embrace reality has emerged at a time when the inequalities of liberal capitalism are at their most extreme. Developed from his popular Gifford Lectures, this book advances a critical approach that recovers our interpretive powers and native skepticism toward normative claims. Though he recognizes his ideas invite charges of relativism, the philosopher counters with a discussion of truth, highlighting its longstanding ties to history and social circumstance. Truth is always contingent and provisional, and reason and reasonableness are bound to historical context. Truth is therefore never objective, and resistance to reality is our best hope to defeat the indifference that threatens the scope of freedom and democracy.

Book excerpt: In the `Preliminary Dissertation' of his Theodicy, Leibniz declares himself an apologist for the compatibilist doctrines of original sin, election and reprobation propounded by the theologians of the Augsburg Confession. According to those theologians, man's actions are determined but man retains the power to act otherwise and therefore is responsible for his actions. Savage argues that Leibniz, in formulating his apology, availed himself of both his doctrine of possible worlds and his finite-infinite analysis distinction (the latter being applied within the former). Savage challenges the dogma that Leibniz's metaphysical principles entail that individuals are powerless to act otherwise and that God cannot conceive of them acting otherwise. He argues that interpreters deduce the dogma from those principles with the aid of dubious extra-textual premises, for example, that a Leibnizian individual has only one complete concept or cannot be persons other than the person it actually is.

Book excerpt: THE following discourse is intended, not merely as an answer to any particular book written against the doctrine of Original Sin, but as a general defense of that great important doctrine. Nevertheless, I have in this defense taken notice of the main things said against this doctrine, by such of the more noted opposers of it as I have had opportunity to read: particularly those two late writers, Dr. Turnbull and Dr. Taylor, of Norwich; but especially the latter, in what he has published in those two books of his, the first entitled, The Scripture-Doctrine of Original Sin proposed to free and candid Examination; the other, his Key to the Apostolic Writings

Book excerpt: Though known primarily as a herald of philosophical pessimism, the full range of Schopenhauer's contributions is displayed here in a collection of thirty-one essays on the forefront of Schopenhauer scholarship. The essays explore his central notions, including the will, empirical knowledge, and the sublime, and widens to the interplay of ethics and religion with Schopenhauer's philosophy. Authors confront difficult aspects of Schopenhauer's work and legacy - for example, the extent to which Schopenhauer adopted ideas from his predecessors compared to how much was original and visionary in his central claim that reality is a blind, senseless 'will,' the effectiveness of his philosophy in the field of scientific explanation and extrasensory phenomena, and the role of beauty and sublimity in his outlook.--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In chapter 1 of this book, I explore four paradigms of justification: epistemic foundationalism and coherentism (which I call the traditional paradigms) and pragmatism and contextualism (the existential paradigms). I argue that the existential paradigms are pragmatically superior. In chapter 2, I build a bridge between pragmatist thinkers like James and Dewey, contextualists such as Wittgenstein, and existentialists such as Sartre and Camus. After arguing that all three share a unique first philosophy, I distinguish epistemic pragmatism and contextualism by pointing out three key features of each. In chapter 3, I codify many popular so-called neopragmatists such as Rorty, Putnam, Annis, Alston, Quine, and Brandom according to my distinction.
