This book was released on 1975 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the mechanical influence of interstitial fluids on the deformation process of saturated rocks has been conducted to determine the domain of validity of previously published theories. Equilibrium equations for fluid saturated materials in which the fluid is at rest or flows according to DARCY's law were derived. For this purpose, a new characterization of porosity has been proposed for analyzing porosity variation within a rock mass. This derivation indicates that the bulk material (solid plus fluid) can be represented by an equivalent homogeneous continuum for which the mass density and the stress tensor at any point depend upon average stresses and average densities of both the solid matrix and the saturating fluid as well as upon the surface and the volume porosity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A large fraction of the free world's oil reserves is obtainable only by the application of thermal enhanced recovery methods. This book provides an introductory overview of the important methods for oil recovery by application of heat. It describes the more important field tests of these methods and the operational problems encountered. The author offers an integrated approach to making preliminary, comparative forecasts for the principal methods of thermal oil recovery, and describes a novel method for insulating steam injection wells that is not widely used. Simplified calculation methods are presented by which preliminary estimates of process behavior can be made, and results of more sophisticated numerical simulations are presented for steam injection applications. There is thorough discussion of cyclic steam stimulation, steam flooding, and in situ combustion. Includes numerous case histories.
