Still, Danni was part of a world where Stone and his little girl didn't belong—better to move on than risk the pain of losing love again. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an extensive and thorough exploration of the ways in which the middle class in India select their spouse. Using the prism of matchmaking, this book critically unpacks the concept of the 'modern' and traces the importance of moralities and values in the making of middle class identities, by bringing to the fore intersections and dynamics of caste, class, gender, and neoliberalism. The author discusses a range of issues: romantic relationships among youth, use of online technology and of professional services like matrimonial agencies and detective agencies, encounters of love and heartbreak, impact of experiences of pain and humiliation on spouse-selection, and the involvement of family in matchmaking. Based on this comprehensive account, she elucidates how the categories of 'love' and 'arranged' marriages fall short of explaining, in its entirety and essence, the contemporary process of spouse-selection in urban India. Though the ethnographic research has been conducted in India, this book is of relevance to social scientists studying matchmaking practices, youth cultures, modernity and the middle class in other societies, particularly in parts of Asia. While being based on thorough scholarship, the book is written in accessible language to appeal to a larger audience.

Book excerpt: BOOKER PRIZE WINNER • NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A novel that follows a middle-aged man as he contends with a past he never much thought about—until his closest childhood friends return with a vengeance: one of them from the grave, another maddeningly present. A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single setting, The Sense of an Ending has the psychological and emotional depth and sophistication of Henry James at his best, and is a stunning achievement in Julian Barnes's oeuvre. Tony Webster thought he left his past behind as he built a life for himself, and his career has provided him with a secure retirement and an amicable relationship with his ex-wife and daughter, who now has a family of her own. But when he is presented with a mysterious legacy, he is forced to revise his estimation of his own nature and place in the world.

Book excerpt: True love doesn’t just happen, notes professional matchmaker Patti Novak. You have to work for it–and want it. Forget eight-minute speed dates or online dating sites with twenty-page questionnaires that promise a scientifically calculated perfect match. The fact that you both like golf, stamp collecting, and pizza with anchovies is great, but it won’t mean a thing if you don’t feel that zing. But before there can be sparks, there have to be dates. And before the first date, you need to get over yourself! Taking a tough-love approach, and in her signature straight-shooting style, Patti will show you how to fix what needs to be fixed, reach your core, and identify who you are and what you want in a partner. She uses a three-part common-sense formula: • Getting Over What? Assess your dating weaknesses, recognize what’s not working, and adjust your expectations. Delve into your personal history and past relationships, and pinpoint the issues that have been holding you back. • Almost Over It Fine-tune your attitude, your look, and your behavior to maximize your dating chances. Novak lays out strategies to help you deal with the brutal dating monsters you find along the way. • Over It Learn the do’s and don’ts of the first date, the second date, and beyond. Remember, it’s not a job interview or therapy session. Pretend you’re meeting a new friend, not a prospective husband or wife. Finding your one and only isn’t about having the right shoes or a flat stomach. It’s about being true to yourself, being vulnerable, and being ready for love. Whether you’re new to the dating scene, divorced and looking, or just trying to reach that second date, Get Over Yourself! will help you get the love you’ve always wanted and deserve.

Book excerpt: The more things change, the more they stay the same. And that goes double for New Year's at the beach house. Molly's at the beach house for the first time in years and she's got a lot on her mind. She wants a more stable career than the one she has, but that might involve going back to school (which she swore she'd never do). It also might involve imposing more regularly on her...friends in London. Which might be fine? But what if seeing each other more often means they lose the thing that makes their relationship special? Of course, she could spill all this to her family and let them reassure her, but that's a can of worms she's not so sure she wants to open. Plus, she has plenty of distractions. Some folks are contemplating parenthood, some are contemplating the nature of love, others are dealing with loss, everyone's favorite triad has finally admitted their feelings for each other, and then there's Lucy. (Mmm, thank goodness for Lucy.) Hugs, gossip, cuddling, speeches, long walks on the beach, new friends, and loads of laughter. Sure, decisions must be made. But for now all she has to do is eat some good food and love on her family. Happy New Year's at the beach house to Molly!

This book was released on 2021-01-30 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behavioral health conditions, which include mental health and substance use disorders, affect approximately 20 percent of Americans. Of those with a substance use disorder, approximately 60 percent also have a mental health disorder. As many as 80 percent of patients with behavioral health conditions seek treatment in emergency rooms and primary care clinics, and between 60 and 70 percent of them are discharged without receiving behavioral health care services. More than two-thirds of primary care providers report that they are unable to connect patients with behavioral health providers because of a shortage of mental health providers and health insurance barriers. Part of the explanation for the lack of access to care lies in a historical legacy of discrimination and stigma that makes people reluctant to seek help and also led to segregated and inhumane services for those facing mental health and substance use disorders. In an effort to understanding the challenges and opportunities of providing essential components of care for people with mental health and substance use disorders in primary care settings, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Forum on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders convened three webinars held on June 3, July 29, and August 26, 2020. The webinars addressed efforts to define essential components of care for people with mental health and substance use disorders in the primary care setting for depression, alcohol use disorders, and opioid use disorders; opportunities to build the health care workforce and delivery models that incorporate those essential components of care; and financial incentives and payment structures to support the implementation of those care models, including value-based payment strategies and practice-level incentives. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussion of the webinars.
