Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive study of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI). The rise of Pakistan-backed religious extremist groups in Afghanistan, India, and Central Asia has focused international attention on Pakistan’s premier intelligence organization and covert action advocate, the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate or ISI. While ISI is regarded as one of the most powerful government agencies in Pakistan today, surprisingly little has been written about it from an academic perspective. This book addresses critical gaps in our understanding of this agency, including its domestic security mission, covert backing of the Afghan Taliban, and its links to al-Qa’ida. Using primary source materials, including declassified intelligence and diplomatic reporting, press reports and memoirs, this book explores how ISI was transformed from a small, negligible counter intelligence outfit of the late-1940s into the national security behemoth of today with extensive responsibilities in domestic security, political interference and covert action. This study concludes that reforming or even eliminating ISI will be fundamental if Pakistan is to successfully transition from an army-run, national security state to a stable, democratic society that enjoys peaceful relations with its neighbours. This book will be of interest to students of intelligence studies, South Asian politics, foreign policy and international security in general.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Asia increases in economic and geopolitical significance, it is necessary to better understand the region’s intelligence cultures. The Handbook of Asian Intelligence Cultures explores the historical and contemporary influences that have shaped Asian intelligence cultures as well as the impact intelligence service have had on domestic and foreign affairs. In examining thirty Asian countries, it considers the roles, practices, norms and oversight of Asia’s intelligence services, including the ends to which intelligence tools are applied. The book argues that there is no archetype of Asian intelligence culture due to the diversity of history, government type and society found in Asia. Rather, it demonstrates how Asian nations’ histories, cultures and governments play vital roles in intelligence cultures. This book is a valuable study for scholars of intelligence and security services in Asia, shedding light on understudied countries and identifying opportunities for future scholarship.

Book excerpt: Author has trailed emergence of women police, reflected Education, Competence and Performance with transgenerational roots of wisdom from Constable to IGP, psycho-socio-culture mentors to find freedom, justice and unity. This has made her a trailblazer to become an unequivocal representative to reflect the conduct of police: not maintaining Justice Principle; of Unity, not a catchword within its ranks; and of freedom, not the muse of Cohesive Ethics Theorem. This book embeds two modes of existence: the male operational mode, which concentrates on material reliance, power and chauvinism and is the basis of such evils as greed for money and domination; and the female operational mode which is based in affection, in the pleasure of sharing distress of the female, and constructive activity, where she concludes that female talent is still untapped. Hence, this book reflects distinct psychological sketch of the Women Police and pushes readers to muse on it and opens bold horizons of intellectual endeavors.
