Book excerpt: Excerpt from Library of Biblical and Theological Literature, Vol. 3 The design of the Editors and Publishers of the Biblical And Theological Library is to furnish ministers and laymen with a series of works which, in connection with the Commentaries now issuing, shall make a compendious apparatus for study. While the theology of the volumes will be in harmony with the doctrinal standards of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the aim will be to make the entire Library acceptable to all evangelical Christians. The following writers have co-operated in the preparation of the series: Dr. Harman, Introduction to the Study of the Holy Scriptures (tenth thousand). Dr. Terry, Biblical Hermeneutics (fifth thousand). Drs. Creoles and Hurst, Theological Encyclopaedia and Methodology (fourth thousand). Dr. Bennett, Christian Archaeology (third thousand). Dr. Miley, Systematic Theology, Vols. I and II. Vol. I, second thousand, and Vol. II, ready June 1, 1894. The Introduction to the Study of the Holy Scriptures, Hermeneutics, and Encyclopaedia and Methodology are revised editions, the revision of the last named being completed May 1, 1894. Other works in preparation are, The Evidences of Christianity, by Dr. Ridgaway; Christian Theism and Modern Speculative Thought, by Dr. Charles J. Little; History of Christian Doctrine, by Dr. Crooks; and History of the Christian Church, by Bishop Hurst. In the case of every treatise the latest literature will be consulted and its results incorporated. The works comprised in the series will be printed in full octavo size, and finished in the best style of typography and binding. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Library of Biblical and Theological Literature, Vol. 6 It is not to be thought strange that theories differed. The sub dwerences ject is one of the profoundest. It lies in the mystery OF doctrine Of the divine incarnation. The divine Son invests him self in human nature. SO far the Statement of the incarnation is easily made but the statement leaves us on the surface of the pro found reality. With a merely tactual or sympathetic union of the two natures, and consequently two distinct persons in Christ, the reality of the divine incarnation disappears. With the two distinct natures, and the two classes of divine and human facts, how can he be one person? Is the divine nature humanized, or the human nature deified in him? Or did the union of the two natures result in a third nature different from both, and so provide for the oneness of his personality? The Scriptures make no direct answer to these questions. They give us many Christological facts, but in elementary form, and leave the construction of a doctrine of the person of Christ to the resources of Christian thought. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday Christians need practical and accessible theology. In this handbook first published in 1890, Charles Octavius Boothe simply and beautifully lays out the basics of theology for common people. "Before the charge 'know thyself,'" Boothe wrote, "ought to come the far greater charge, 'know thy God.'" He brought the heights of academic theology down to everyday language, and he helps us do the same today. Plain Theology for Plain People shows that evangelicalism needs the wisdom and experience of African American Christians. Walter R. Strickland II reintroduces this forgotten masterpiece for today. Lexham Classics are beautifully typeset new editions of classic works. Each book has been carefully transcribed from the original texts, ensuring an accurate representation of the writing as the author intended it to be read.

The acute criticisms, and the exe getical interpretations by Barrow are of high consideration to a Biblical Reader - therefore a minute Table of the d104s of Scripture has been prepared; from which the opinions of that Annotator can promptly be understood.
