Book excerpt: The Beginner's Bible Journal: Leviticus contains everything a beginner will need to get into the third book of the Bible. This series is dedicated to helping new Bible readers take an easy and simple approach to Scripture reading. All you need is a copy of the Bible (which can easily be found online for free), this journal, and a pen. In it, you will find a preview for the Bible, a How to Use page to show you how to use this journal, and a preview page for the book you are studying. It is so simple and easy to use. You will very simply read one chapter of the Bible per day then fill out each chapter's pages in the journal. There are places for you to write what verse sticks out to you the most, a place to write prayers if you'd like, and an entire page dedicated to writing down your questions to ask and research later. The Beginners Bible Journal could not be more simple. It is designed with beginner Bible readers, just like you, in mind. Too many Bible studies assume someone has a ton of background information or someone to hold their hand through the entire process. I didn't, and you may not either. So this journal is designed the way I would have needed it to be designed when I began my journey in Bible reading. You CAN do this!

Whether you're brand-new to the Bible or you grew up in the second pew, reading Scripture can feel confusing or boring at times. Understanding it well seems to require reading it thoroughly (and even repeatedly), but who wants to read something they don't understand? If you've ever wanted to read through the Bible or even just wanted to want to read it, The Bible Recap is here to help. Following a chronological Bible reading plan, these recaps explain and connect the story of Scripture, section by section. Soon you'll see yourself as a child of God who knows and loves His Word in the ways you've always hoped for. You don't have to go to seminary. You don't need a special Bible. Just start reading this book alongside your Bible and see what God has to say about Himself in the story He's telling. "Tara-Leigh gets me excited to read the Bible. Period. I have found a trusted guide to walk me into deeper understanding of the Scriptures."--MICHAEL DEAN MCDONALD, the Bible Project

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginners scanning Leviticus will find much detail about rituals and sinful situations, but little enlightening context or rationale. This study explores how scholars imagine that these rituals and moral laws made sense to those living back then, even though many of these early rituals and customs have been discontinued or replaced by consensus with alternative forms of worship. The authors seem to be unquestioningly devout, and quite realistic about life at the same time. Everyone shared in rituals of faith at home, at shrines, or in Jerusalem; everyone honored the proper food and eligibility regulations, and everyone was called to the common code of justice. Likewise, most everyone knew at least the temptation to shirk religious duties; they understood the lure of trying to contact other gods, ones more lenient or at least easier to understand; and they could be inclined to look the other way at improper romances, or quick but dishonest chances to get a bigger slice of the pie. The Covenant was not a deal made by saints. It was a cry for help from sinners, a cry for help for which they had not earned the right. The same is true for us believers even now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jews call the Hebrew Scriptures the “Tanakh” and Christians call them the “Old Testament.” It doesn't take long to see that Jews and Christians view the same set of books differently and interpret these scriptures in unique and at times conflicting ways. The Hebrew Bible for Beginners introduces students to the tremendous influence the Hebrew Bible has had on western society for over two millennia and explores the complexities of reading ancient religious literature today. The book also addresses how certain modern critical approaches may initially be alarming, indeed even shocking, to those who have not been exposed to them, but it tackles the conversation in a respectful fashion. Avoiding jargon and convoluted prose, this highly accessible volume provides textboxes, charts, a timeline, a glossary, and regularly includes artistic renderings of biblical scenes to keep lay and beginning readers engaged.
