Book excerpt: The Northern Kingdom was founded on pain and battle. Pain from years of persecution for their religious beliefs at the hands of the Justican Empire. Then Battle when they followed a lone Elve back through uncharted mountains to a harsh land populated by the fecund Barrow Kin where they had to win their place in the world through 25 years of hard fought war. But win it they did. For 50 years they have known peace, and Justice was handed down by the Knights of the Martyr. However, with the end of the centuries of wars in the South their former masters, the Justican Empire with their God like Emperors have once again set their eyes on them. A giant of a knight who has grown jaded in his faith. A young boy with powers he can't explain. A young girl who has more secrets than dreams. And a novice Duke trying to fill the shoes of his murdered father. These are the people ready to do what they think is best for the Northern Kingdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Venerable Sir Adrian Fortescue: Knight of the Bath, Knight of St. John, Martyr Amongst the Martyrs of the time of Henry the Eighth, who were not depicted on the walls of the English College Church and who are therefore not included in the Decree that gave to fifty-four Martyrs the honours of the Blessed, are three Knights of the Order. Of St. John of Jerusalem. These are Sir Adrian Fortescue and Sir Thomas Dingley, who were beheaded on Tower Hill on the 8th or loth of July, 1539, and Sir David Gunston, who was hanged, drawn, and quartered at St. Thomas Waterings in Southwark on July I, 1541. Of these three Martyrs hardly a word has been published by Catholic writers, excepting that Fortescue and Dingley were attainted by Act of Parliament for denyingthe King's Supremacy and that Gunston was tried and found guilty of high treason for the same cause, Of Sir Thomas Dingley and Sir David Gunston there is little more, as yet, that can be said but fortunately modern research, and more especially the labours of Thomas (fortescue) Lord Clermont, the historian of his family, have put us in possession of a considerable body of information respecting Sir Adrian Fortescue. He comes of an interesting family, of which Lord Clermont modestly says that it is a fair example of a knightly and noble house of England, and it will be well for us under his guidance to learn something, not only of our Martyr, but of those who went before him and followed after him of his blood and name. Book excerpt: In many societies today, the utterance of a simple phrase, "I am a Christian," is a crime punishable by death. So widespread is this persecution that Pope Francis called it a "third world war, waged piecemeal ]]a form of genocide." In "To the Martyrs: A Reflection on the Supreme Christian Witness," Cardinal Donald Wuerl urges solidarity with today's persecuted Christians and recounts the recurrence of martyrdom throughout Church history. His Eminence's poignant insight into the spirituality of martyrdom will challenge all Christians to courageously emulate the steadfast commitment of those who have followed Christeven unto death.

Book excerpt: Seldom can one predict that a book will have an effect on history, but this is such a work. Merton's many biographers and the American press now say unanimously that he died from accidental electrocution. From a careful examination of the official record, including crime scene photographs that the authors have found that the investigating police in Thailand never saw, and from reading the letters of witnesses, they have discovered that the accidental electrocution conclusion is totally false. The widely repeated story that Merton had taken a shower and was therefore wet when he touched a lethal faulty fan was made up several years after the event and is completely contradicted by the evidence. Hugh Turley and David Martin identify four individuals as the primary promoters of the false accidental electrocution narrative. Another person, they show, should have been treated as a murder suspect. The most likely suspect in plotting Merton's murder, a man who was a much stronger force for peace than most people realize, they identify as the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States government. Thomas Merton was the most important Roman Catholic spiritual and anti-warfare-state writer of the 20th century. To date, he has been the subject of 28 biographies and numerous other books. Remarkably, up to now no one has looked critically at the mysterious circumstances surrounding his sudden death in Thailand. From its publication date in the 50th anniversary of his death, into the foreseeable future, this carefully researched work will be the definitive, authoritative book on how Thomas Merton died.

"Ryan again showcases his gift for epic fantasy in his excellent sequel to The Pariah . . . . Ryan's evocative prose enhances the suspenseful, intricate story . . . .This fires on all cylinders." —Publishers Weekly (starred review) Times have changed for Alwyn Scribe. Once an outlaw, he’s now a spymaster and sworn protector of Lady Evadine Courlain, whose visions of a demonic apocalypse have earned her the fanatical devotion of the faithful. Yet Evadine’s growing fame has put her at odds with both Crown and Covenant. As trouble brews in the kingdom, both seek to exploit her position for their own ends. Sent to the Duchy of Alundia to put down a rebellion, Alwyn must rely on old instincts to fight for his new cause. Deadly feuds and ancient secrets are laid bare as war erupts, a war that will decide the fate of the Kingdom of Albermaine and, perhaps, prevent the coming of the prophesied Second Scourge.
