The Eckenstein-PfannlGuillarmod expedition discovered and explored the upper basin of the Godwin Austen, and put the site of the watershed much farther toward the north-east, at Windy Gap. Guillarmod's narrative is accompanied by a map of the Baltoro, on a scale of 1: 200,000, which reproduces that of Conway in its general hues, with the addition of the upper Godwin Austen.1 He does not describe the methods employed in the survey, but the map of the new part, despite its appearance of exactness and its being furnished with contours, is only an approximate sketch, in which the outlines of the mountains, the lateral valleys and the confluent glaciers are so altered that it is difiicult to identify them when one is on the spot.
